No real gameplay, unfortunately showing a set of rooms and a placement interface doesn't constitute anything all that remarkable. I am sorry to be negative, I think I just want this to be real (and see real progress) yet I am not seeing anything that provides that confidence yet.

From the Kickstarter: "Should we meet our goal here on Kickstarter, we'll have everything we need to ensure that Identity gets completed." "Identity is going to cost a lot more than $150,000 to produce; our Kickstarter campaign is a proof-of-concept to several investors and with its success we'll have the funding we need." As stated they were going for a proof of market for the funding drive. Many Campaigns do this (not really the vast majority but a good amount), but there is always a clear expectation that should the funding goals be met, its full steam ahead. As I stated way up in this thread, I am good-to-go on throwing them some money if the gameplay is good (show me ANYTHING), internal issues are their own business as long as things are getting done. You also don't tell people those issues. They could also take 5 years for all I cared, as long as they kept showing some work regularly. But if the excuse is, "oh, got more important things to do for the moment," the signal is just bad. Especially on top of not having seen anything but some more concept work for months. Also on a side note. I came here due to TwitchRP community, we are doing No Pixel at the moment (sorta), a Arma Life mod. The mention from a big streamer got me my partner looking into it.... that mention was not actually positive though, due mostly to nothing happening with Identity for so long. And then on no less than 6 other occasions different streamers have dropped a mention, said it "looked" like it'll be great but it's "probably not happening, too bad". These are the people that you want to be excited and name dropping (without reservation) while they play the thing that Identity is trying to be better than. At least tell them its all going fine, so they haven't forgotten about it. -

It's not a good thing to say that they have multiple jobs that are getting in the way. This actually decreases my desire to throw them some money. Sure, they are a small team and gotta live, but they already did a Kickstarter. There isn't much they could say in defence of backburnering a project they have effectively been given full funding for already (a successful Kickstarter = the money they thought they needed to complete this work). If they miscalculated that's another bad sign. -
Fingers crossed we can get a good community that doesn't just rush everywhere. Everyone wants to be in the car chase.

I wonder if this kind of technique can translate to gameplay?

put (money) into financial schemes, shares, property, or a commercial venture with the expectation of achieving a profit. Just accept that your about as much as investor as a normal consumer buying a product. If thats "investment" to you, more power to you. Legally, we don't/can't think that way in the real world. -

lol thats the kind of response I see when people have no grasp of the actual concept of emotional meaning versus legal/economic meaning. You can say investment but legally its just not true. Actually I would say the same, stubbornly believing something without actually going and reading things like the Kickstarter terms of service or understanding things like Equity sharing doesn't help you in this circumstance. I would hope the ignorance you show is rectified when you gather more knowledge on the subject. Check out the language used in all Kickstarters and Crowd Funding, they can not legally use the term, Investment. They can only say Funding or Pledge. It's legally very clear. Again, the difference is the emotional meaning versus the economic one. If you have ever had to go find a Grant or get funding you'd know the term investment can't be used unless it's a project with a profit sharing venture... which is currently still a legal mine field and why its not done yet with Crowd Equity. It's a weird line, but its not blurred, its actually very clear. -

Nope, sorry that's not how it works at all. We funded it, we did not invest. We are not getting money back. -

Oh gees, the Investor nonsense that comes up with all these Kickstarter Games. NO, Kickstarting or buying early access is in no way making you an economic Investor. In economic terms Investing is always; money in with the expectation of more money out. Kickstarting is like 90% final product based. You've just bought something before it exists, that's it. You are a consumer with hope - you pre-ordered based on a concept. At best you've pledged in a fundraiser, at worst you've paid for a con. But it's only a pre-order no matter which way its spun. Symbolically its a token of trust and financially it's support on the level of sponsorship. BTW, as this was a money based interaction with Asylum Entertainment Inc, you can't just jump down the definition ladder and use the term emotionally. You used money, not time, goodwill or wishes. Thus we technically only refer to the monetary definition. Otherwise we 'technically' invest in everything we devote any amount of effort too and the meaning is gone anyway. -
One thing that would be really handy is in game digital Business Cards. This is something you have to give willingly to people (via a phone app) and it will have all your contacts and business links on it. More than just a friend invite, as it can be completely separate from friends lists, more like a Business Contacts List. The Business Card just represents that relationship and only has the business info you would want an acquaintance or customer ('mark') too see. (Can be legit or just have aliases, false front info, dummy account info etc) And I think the best thing would be in-game websites for all the ads to link too. Just make them boilerplate templates we can customise with a few logos and colours. This would be a portal for job/mission/trade requests too (via in-game email @advertised-business-site). Other players can use the site to put in orders which you can fulfil or deny whenever you are around. So anyone who works for that business can trade on it's behalf too. The nexus for an organisation with different permission levels. One of the best ways to advertise is just to have Signs on the sides of trucks and logos on our Buildings too.

Seems to me that if they are going to have some great Beach Resort spots they'll have some fun water related activities. Subs would be fantastic.

Not having air based vehicles really helps with a lot of balance issues and in the case of Identity can keep the gameplay focused on actual grounded social interactions. If anyone has ever spent more than a couple of hours in Arma Life (any version) you'd realise that Air basically undermines huge elements of RP and Law Enforcement gameplay. Sure it's cool to work towards a Helicopter or light plane, to exponentially increase your "efficiency" for your "business", but having them off-the-table solves way more problems in the game mechanics than people realise. Keeping people grounded and interacting character to character is going to be a better experience.

I actually did a bit of research while I had the chance. Looks like the servers will be just like Ark and normal Altis Life setups. There will be official ones all over but we can also start our own. So that concern of mine is gone. Now on with the gameplay for confidence building ao i can drop some coin. -

I am personally waiting for true gameplay videos before putting down my money. Thing is, if it ends up looking good I will be going for at least $100 level and so will my S.O, her Brothers and quite a decent portion of our RP group. We have all been waiting for something that is basically the LIFE Mod but without the ARMA clunk and bleh. So I would have thought it'd be in their best interest to at least put together at least a few videos of some standard gameplay loops in concept. The only thing that would put me off is not having Aussie servers; I don't want to assume anything about servers being setup like Ark (etc) with Official ones all over the globe. So that info would also help us take the plunge.
