Besides, with that player average and almost nobody supporting Identity, there's not gonna be any extra income. So it will be up to the dev team to whether this should continue or not.

It's not a matter of time guys. The important thing here is getting some sign of consistency. For example, they had to re-implement UI and that cause some trouble on release. So imagine in a year or two, there could be another problem like: "The driving physics module we adquired got deprecated and we had to buy another one". Even perhaps the game you're currently can heavily change, so there's no reason to play it if you don't like it. Don't be a tester. you ain't getting paid for that.

So basically most of the problems that Identity has is because of the migration to other UI. Feels bad man. Was a free UI software the previous one?
-
So many of you remember this video: Almost 8 months ago. If you want to take a moment and see what he could actually do, then you'll realize that that version is not any different from the one you guys are playing right now. So what happened? Devs stopped working or it was all server-side code from there to now? I'm just asking this because it makes me think that Aslyum's work is pretty inconsistent. However, on a more positive thought, they might have worked on UI which doesn't show up on that video. It seems then that UI was such a big deal so they couldn't take care of bugs that had 8 months ago. Do you guys know which library are they using for UI?

Fair argument, I'll take it. Although I believe there should be a 8x8 matrix so a piece can't be in the between of two squares.
-
So I just have seen PsiSyn "playing chess" but actually he can move anywhere he wants. You can even move a piece in between two squares. Is it that hard to do a matrix of 8x8 over the chess texture so you can check the position that the player wants to move in and tell if it is a legal move or not? CS101.

So it has been proven that the team has no experience in game development. Now with 4 years you can have more than enough time to learn how to use UE4 system and somehow develop a decent Town Square module. Maybe from now major updates will come basing on that last statement.

The State of Identity (From a concerned citizen)

What I believe is that today you can only defend the project, because there's no game so far. Now suppose that Identity was released without any major bugs. Then we would have the "glorified social game" we were expecting. I believe some people (me included) got disappointed by the fact that they couldn't even get a social game right. As a programmer, I feel they got major bugs that won't be fixed in 2018. So I agree patience is key and honestly, if the team can still work hard despite not receiving a single dollar from now on, it's alright for me. The real question is: how much time will they keep on going without cash coming from players? Because most of us will not invest on this game unless they show something real. Personally, I was expecting an economy system, civilians jobs, buy/sell within players, a true real estate system, and so on. Not even asking for the other two modules to come out. Just a serious RP module. No need of gigantic features. Although I would like a decent map. Even gmod darkRP got bigger maps lol. "Limitless world"- 12 replies

Maybe this team wasn't capable of handling such a project. So either you are correct and they wasted the money in useless stuff and hiring freelancer programmers who appear to fail on doing something solid, or perhaps they grabbed most of the cash for themselves and kept just a little to mantain Identity. Let's think on the future, consider that right now Aslyum needs a fresh new team of developers/designers in order to change what they have done and refactor (and repair) most of the current work. First of all, can they afford that change? Would any game programmer/art designer join up with a low salary? In my opinion, there's no turning back. But as I have said on another thread, they have a few options: use that cash for maintaining their lives while studying CS or game programming, merge with a studio, focus on Arma3/GTA V server or shut everything down.

A game like this can't be made by beginners. Perhaps they thought UE4 would do the job but the true is that when it starts to scale up, it gets harder and harder. And at that moment, you need someone with experience, someone who have already created a videogame on that system. Not even mentioning a guy who specifically takes care of networking code. Here are my suggestions, of course it's an opinion: 1) You did a great KS campaign. Somehow, you demostrated us how passionate you are about this project. Nonetheless, the team hasn't the skills for making it. Why not merging with a gaming studio? 2) Go and learn UE4 from scratch. Or go to college and study CS. Maybe you guys skipped lots of important concepts and tried to start a game without programming experience. 3) Shut this down and wait until Arma 4 comes out or work on designing a roleplay server on GTA V. Personally, I would go with (3). Of course, you can decide to stay with the main plan: 4) The game is unfinished, but magically someday it will be the game we all want. So "stop with the negative comments". I wonder if Steam can remove this game from the list...

We were right, and you can't argue with us anymore.

What makes me sad is that this game has shown that no one on the team has a solid understanding of UE4 system. It's a shame. Almost nothing in the game was done well. It doesn't matter if it's a sandbox game where you have to make lots of content. At least do one thing correctly. Why should be keep waiting? 4 years of development and there's nothing impressive to do. I prefer to follow The Sims online project. Good luck with those refunds! The reason I didn't spend any money on this game is because I watched many of their live streams plus reading all the anouncements and realised that they never showed any gameplay content nor game mechanics. The aparment video gave some hope but nothing was shown after that. -
Best thing of Identity right now is jazz music on apartment's lobby. Good job.

Considering that they told us that Identity's release is in Steam's hands, why don't we report the game and comment something like "Hey we can't still download the game despite the fact it stated to be out like 6 hours ago". I want some Valve moderator being involved on this because if it's not Steam's fault, they should remove the game from the list.

Is this a company? Let's begin with that. The funniest thing is watching streamers waiting for Identity to come out. I don't know man, just show me at least a live stream of Aslyum's team being desperate for trying to make the final build. This is a complete joke right now.

I thought they were gonna release the game but with servers crashing constantly. This is disappointing..I believe people who bought this game and couldn't get a refund just wants to play at least some chess lol.
