I was specifically told some of these were placeholders. By the moderator. Even if not, images or better descriptions are needed ON THE PLEDGES PAGE. I'm tired of dumpster diving to find scraps of what I'm supposedly going to pay for. > .<

This might be one of the last DEV TASKS REMAINING posts!!
ShiEksdee replied to Kubert's topic in The Town Square
This. This right here is my issue. Everything should be organized in a place where people don't have to dig through a myriad of media outlets to get the entire information on this game. > .< -
That disconnect is why I have been hesitating on backing (I do want to, but I'm waiting for a lil more substance). I'm lurking because supposedly things are supposed to ramp up, according to one of the developers, but I'm at least waiting until the pledges show what I'll get for supporting the project before I go shelling out money. I've seen too many red flags with this project to even think of doing otherwise. I am excited about TS release, but I feel I'd be foolish to buy anything other than a standard pass without the products pledges page is updated with some images of what goes to what. I want the game to succeed though! And I understand these devs are new to making their own full games, and I know it's a difficult undertaking and risky with being so ambitious. But they've just GOT to understand that dev-to-playerbase communication is everything in indie crowdfunded games.

I do know that unofficial servers can be created and maintained by a player, and they'll dictate how that server is run. There are a few hardcore RP-only servers-in-planning already. There will also be official severs, though! "Be anything" is half-plausible I guess. I know that painters, writers, transport services, farmers, etc. will exist, but there's also some talk of how dancers won't be in-game. I wonder if they'll make a way to own your own dancer-type club. So there's a wide variety of things you can do and be, but I don't know about "anything". I'm unsure about the last question. I'll let someone else answer that one.

From a game dev standpoint, the funding isn't enough to make a game as grandiose as they've described and stay funded throughout its entire development, however from what I've seen (taking all media into consideration) they have had more than enough to make more than what they've shown off. It's probably best to assume that the money earned was just mishandled along the way meaning the game wasn't getting attention proportionate to the money being spent somehow. Mishandling funds is a huge pitfall for many indie developed games, especially for unseasoned developers. My main issue with the game is still a lack of transparency and clarity. Having to travel all over everywhere just to get answers for things that should be organized neatly on the website, and the constant excuses and "soon"s without any explanations.........is frustrating to say the least. I haven't been here long, but I can understand why some people would get fed up and quit. The community itself is rotten as well and closer moderation is needed. The game itself seems pretty alright for an indie dev (so far) and I'm excited for it - more worried about its continued development down the road. It doesn't get easier, but harder from here. I've had a small ORPG to manage before and trust me development NEVER stops on these sorts of games (online, community based etc.). If its having this much trouble in the early phases, it's a pretty big red flag as to what is to come. That's what worries me most.

That one is basically EXACTLY Identity, at the core lol Read, maybe?
-
The terrible behavior is coming from both sides, to be honest, and the regulation needs to come in the form of deleting the posts attacking people instead of discourse about the game itself.
-
Actually, based solely on logical standing with no bias involved, their organization/presentation IS more professional. This is of course completely separate from their game designing skill (which we haven't seen enough of to compare). But as far as professionalism in the way the team presents their materials - so far they have the upper hand.

Oh wow. I'm going to follow this one! ^ u^ Also I really love their motivations behind their creation: " We want to provide a fun outlet for folks to enjoy themselves in a virtual world. We also want to provide a platform for folks who may suffer from circumstances that prevents them from fulfilling an average life. Whether you suffer from physical or mental ailments, such as depression, any kind of social anxiety, or basically anything that prevents you from doing basic activities, Project Oasis World can be used as a resource to help people live the life they want to live." And it looks like we'll be getting more than 2 genders options for those people who should be able to express themselves. ^^ I like their developer page and everything looks well organized so far. I'll have to see where this one goes!

There are some images of a few of the items, but they're in threads somewhere else.......I know because I asked the same question and was shown. They should really get their act together and show pictures ON the pledge pages so people know what they're buying. It'd definitely up the sales.
-
I really wish the mods would do something about the people personally attacking others on the forums. Discourse related to the game, sure, but when it comes to name calling, insulting the character and intelligence of others for sharing a different opinion, and such it's very unsightly. Not to mention leaving those comments up is highly unprofessional. I see this from people on both sides of the "arguments" by the way..................
-
Full agreement. I've been saying this stuff for awhile now - as a fellow indie developer, I think dev to playerbase communication is imperative! Organization is important as well. Consistency. And transparency.
-
I saw the new video and that is what sparked my comment. The new video was more tell-y than show-y, and therein lies the problem. It needs to be more organized and show more than just running around and telling us what is going to be in there and praising the art/scenery. I did like the cinema, though, but they never really show much functionality for most of the things, tbh, making some of the potential playerbase wary that there's even anything much there. I'm an advocate for this game by the way not a nay sayer. But as a fellow indie developer you've just got to understand what flies and what doesn't fly when it comes to showing things off.
-
I think the Town Square module will still update and be developed on after its release, which is where the cafe/tattoo parlour/etc. will come in. I do wish the communication was a little more open. And I agree the gameplay videos are lackluster because they never really show off anything much. I understand the whole "we want players to experience for themselves" bit but sometimes you need to show off things if you want to grab people's attention and bring in more potential players.

Sadly enough I don't see many games of the simulationy type that have the nads to implement disabilities for fear of it being too "touchy" in some way or shape. I wish more games gave disabled people representation. Even the world's highest selling simulation game refuses to include them. i.e. I'm for this idea because it's rarely done, and I want a game that simulates more of the real life, even the less favorable parts!
-
Yep. That should do it. I feel it now, the thunder of the devs hastening their work on your command.
-
I believe this forum needs a bit more heavyhanded moderation. Having a topic to discuss concerns is fine, but these conversations tend to devolve into both parties almost personally attacking each other, rather than a civil chat. I'd help moderate but alas the applications for moderation was closed before I got here. u .u

As someone who is eternally interested in university type life, I have to agree with this suggestion. Player-run campuses and classes would be one of the sweetest features ever. Could turn this game into a mini-school for some! ; u;

Reporting players for harassment in-game?
ShiEksdee replied to johannes67890's question in Tourism (Q&A)
Um, I would hope harassment/ ESPECIALLY bullying would be a pretty serious offense. Just saying my two cents. -
[BETTER] POLL: Feelings on Town Square module preview and footage frequency.
ShiEksdee replied to Kraiyick's topic in The Town Square
I had hopeful/positive feelings about the preview. It looks like a solid base. However I wanted to see a little more. Not everything of course, but more than what they showed on the clip. I feel we didn't get an adequate enough preview of gameplay but rather mostly showing off the graphics and layout of town. ^^; -
What types of songs do you like to sing? I sing both rock-ish songs and pop-ish songs and some softer stuff. I've also sang on horrorcore CDs and some electronic things before. Here's me singing a cute Japanese popish song so you can gauge my range (I also have a very STRONG voice I am loud and obnoxious SORRY XDDD ): http://picosong.com/wyD6e/

Meh as much as I do support the release of this game, when it comes to business model and how to run things, my favor fall to the side of Patrick68794. I also work in game dev field WITH a plan to use crowdfunding to propel us through the thick of it. And my team actually plans to have a playable demo for teaser content BEFORE the Kickstarter page ever goes up! It's all about good practices, no matter how big or small the team is. Transparency is everything. Developer to player trust is everything.
