Does the character's data will be saved in all the servers?
N7Huntsman replied to YotBox's topic in The Town Square
When you say "everything", does that include houses? We know that the apartments are instances for each player, but what about houses? When you own a building, do you only own it on that that server, or on every community/public server? -
I hope they do something a bit more advanced as far as the damage model is concerned--it should be addressed how potentially disabling being shot is vs vanilla Arma 3 where you got just have a certain amount of health and you get more and more bloody until you just die.

Limit: Someone else immediately one-ups you Power: Impenetrable skin

According to the devs, only shops and banks can be robbed. Since players can presumably own shops and other players can (presumably) rob them, commercial security may be a viable option.

Who else thinks the private server experience will be better from the sound of things?
N7Huntsman replied to N7Huntsman's topic in The Town Square
@Shimozukachi You seem to come from a long line of very shitty server moderators if that's what jumps to mind when I state, "good moderation"--if that's the kind of server and community you support and perpetuate by playing with, you've got no one to blame but yourself, so quit projecting your own mistaken preconceptions on others. The developers have stated that 1. There will be automated processes on Public servers and 2. They will support Private servers. It's Strugeon's Law, my friend--somewhere in the neighborhood of 90% of all the private servers started will be utter garbage. However, by and by, the majority of active Private servers will be well-moderated. How can this be so? Because players are (presumably) smart enough to leave ones with shitty staff and gravitate to better servers. Thus, while there will be instances where the incident you described occurs, it certainly isn't the future of private servers. (Ignoring the fact that very few kids 12 y/o have the funds to rent and maintain a server and those those people who do probably aren't going to bring on middle-schoolers as moderators.) -
If you'll notice, I edited a "reply" into my reply to your reply of my reply to your "reply". Therefore by posting this reply, I've just replied to your reply to my replied reply replying to your reply replying to my reply of your reply replying "Reply." (Shockingly, I think that all works out grammatically speaking.)

Obviously, details are scarce this early in development, but we know two things at least: 1. Many processes on Public servers will be automated. 2. Private servers will be an option, and the owners will have control over a lot of things. As someone who plays as and thoroughly enjoys law enforcement, I think the biggest impact that this automation will have is on the justice system. Unfortunately, metagaming is a fact of life, and while it can be mitigated, it cannot be fully gotten rid of. My concern is that the Public server system will crank out a lot of "cops" who take the role solely for the guns and cars and authority without much regard for all the actual police work entailed by RP. Thus I worry to them, "guilty" or "innocent" might boil down to a checkbox of "will the game allow me to I arrest this person?" Obviously, I hope the developers install safeguards for this, but the fact remains--allowing people to "take a training and a quiz" to become a cop and have them promoted based upon an XP-system of sorts is going to have it's problems. Therefore, while Public servers might be an alright place to sharpen your teeth, I think that the Private servers (presuming they have a good moderation team) is going to be the better experience. Thoughts? -
Supposedly guns are going to be fairly hard to come by, but there will be knives, bats, etc., so it's only really "power" in the sense of "armed guy vs (presumably) unarmed guy" up until the police arrive.

I think it's hard to "know" much of anything at this point aside from what the developers intend. (Notably, we've seen the CVPI in concept art) However, with that in mind, there are still a number of vehicles I expect: - CVPI/FPI/Impala as a basic patrol vehicle. Good utility, decent speed, very typical of police. - Charger/Camaro as police interceptor. A little more specialized, faster. - Suburban/Tahoe/Ford Explorer as a supervisor unit. - Bearcat or similar heavy vehicle for SWAT.

Ultimately, the checkpoint would need some sort of purpose, and you typically see them set up between controlled and uncontrolled areas to stop the flow of weapons, drugs, and other contraband. Maybe we'd establish DUI checkpoints from time to time, but with the map being two circular islands, it seems unlikely established checkpoints would serve much purpose.

Obviously, police work (and Identity by and large,) takes all kinds. So I'm curious--who here's coming from another mod/community where they did law enforcement? What were your experiences? Personally, I'm coming from Arma 3's A3L--I was a patrol cop there for a very long time, but I ultimately went my own way due to some differences of opinion with the department leadership and the direction the force was going. Even still, I spent hundreds of hours on patrol there, and I basically did it all--high speed pursuits, bank robberies, backing up SWAT as they executed search warrants, you name it. It taught me a lot about police work and I learned a lot about people. Hopefully, when Identity gets going, I'll be able to take that experience to the streets.

Not at Steam retail price, it's not. There are a few good "Life" mods out there such as Altis Life, City Life, Arma 3 Life, but the communities that run the mods can be pretty terrible at times, both in and out of game. (Notably, these statements are based solely upon my experiences over at A3L.) The mod was very much centered upon cops-vs-robbers and there wasn't much interesting for really rich people to do aside from crime. As a result, all of the "life" occurred surrounded by robberies, shootouts, kidnappings, etc committed by civilians for fun. That's not to say good RP doesn't happen, but me and the other guys on the force would joke that patrolling downtown Lakeside counted as being deployed to a warzone, and that wasn't always far from the truth.

Obviously, a lot of us heard about/were drawn to Identity from within our current/prior RP communities and games. So, "where" is everyone from? What brings you here? I'm from Arma 3's A3L. I was with them for a while and did a lot in law enforcement, but my opinion of the community soured and my time there has more or less come to an end and I'm looking for greener pastures. Hopefully, Identity is that greener pasture. It's ambitious and promises a lot, and I earnestly hope it can deliver.
