There are always only two ways to respond to anything: love (positivity) or fear (negativity). That's it. Let's say you gave someone money in the expectation to receive something back later, something good enough for your expectations. However, they didn't deliver it to your expectations, and you feel emotional about it. You're angry, frustrated, confused, and you feel like you've been made into a victim -- you feel negative. These are all natural ways to feel, but no one should want to stay there for a long time. It would be my suggestion to feel those feelings as much as you can privately. Understand why you are feeling them, and then move on. If you need help in learning how to deal with those negative emotions, it is OK to ask for help. Staying in a negative state is unhealthy for you and for the people you interact with. You are spreading your negativity to others, and you become an agent for fear. Who wants to do that? Who legitimately wants to spend their time spreading fear (negativity) to the people they interact with? Doing so makes the person look like a negative person, and while some positive people may spend their time trying to help such a person, no one can force them to help themselves. The result is that positive people move away from the negative ones, and the negative ones attract to each other and spread more fear. A responsible person checks their emotions at the door when entering into any discussion. Emotions are great tools, but they sometimes make us look bad when we say things that are hateful or things that we shouldn't have said. Complaining about the obvious is not productive. It takes up your time when you could be doing something else more productive and positive. We, as the players, can do nothing to the game to improve it. If you want to play the game in the state you initially expected, support the developers. If you are done, then be done and move on from the forums. While you have a right to be upset, you may wish to spread love around instead of fear. If you do, you may be surprised at how your life changes. Good luck to all of the people who are really upset about this. If you need help, I will listen to you sincerely and offer some advice, if you desire. Just send me a PM. Cheers, and have a great day! TL;DR: 1. Feel emotions. 2. Feel logic. 3. Use logic. 4. Be productive. 5. Spread love not fear/hate.

Mistakes were done, and we all apologize because it took more time than it should, and we know the launch was very rough. But we all actively try to make it better. I just don't understand why some people come and just say it's a total "scam" or trash talk the game. There's a lot of bugs yes, but at least we don't intentionally try to leave it that way. Even Motown (who left to explore other paths) wasn't expecting the launch to be that chaotic. But I just want to say we work hard, and the developers work overtime even during weekend. I don't say that because of information being passed on, I say that because I know they do. And I've spent 12 hours nearly straight for moderating the Discord during launch day (of course I took a few breaks).

This game is an early release product, yes maybe it's been in development for 4 years but guys please take a step back. I've played and yes it's very basic at the moment with some bugs but that happens on every early release title, especially when they've made you guys fully aware this is just the Town Square. An unknown indie gaming company comes up and pledges to create a great city life RP style game better than we've ever seen before, and we shoot them down before they've even released a patch? I'm on a 1050Ti and I'm running the game fine just a few lag spikes when entering stores which I can deal with. I understand the waiting time is frustrating and there is always an urge to write a bad review to make people aware of the progress but be honest! They haven't scammed you, if you purchased one of the very expensive packs then you scammed yourself really, I got the $30 founder pack and I'm already happy with my investment let alone when the game is fully released. This is the first of three modules and even if it takes another year or two to bring the new modules into place then so be it! We will come back in a year or two's time and begin playing the real game mechanics of Identity. My point being... Give them more time, if you've had the patience to wait 4 years like some of you make out then you've got the patience to bare with the Dev's and let them do what they need to do. There is a lot of work in place here for such a small company, Asylum Entertainment has my support and I will continue to play parts of it whilst it's in early access. Peace!

As our community continues to grow, we are seeking additional help from our community members in the Moderator capacity to help keep our community a friendly place! We want the forums and discord to be mediums where users may carry engaging discussions about Identity without the threat of being harassed or threatened. This is not to say that we don’t accept people offering constructive criticism! We want our community to offer a healthy discussion that aims to make Identity the best it can possibly be! An excellent trait for a moderator to have is the capability to demonstrate a good sense of empathy. Having a human approach to situations that demand attention plays a huge part in keeping the community happy! By providing robotic responses and instantly dismissing users who may have unintentionally broken the rules, a moderator might end up contributing to a bad situation! It’s important to understand where someone is coming from, and to give others a chance to explain their situation regarding a dispute where possible. Patience obviously degrades with repeated offenders who seek to solely incite negative responses, but for first offenders, we’re looking for mods who might try to relieve some of the blame by relating to their actions (while still letting them know that they broke the rules and that it’s not okay to do so)! You will be given until Tuesday, December 11th to complete and submit an application where we will then review all entries and message the new moderators. Follow this thread for updates. Apply Here: https://goo.gl/forms/FQ8l6DS7tWGWEL3R2 Things we look for: Advantages: 1. Forum activity 2. Discord activity 3. Positive interaction posts/comments 4. Well put application 5. Past experience 6. High involvement in the community 7. Good grammar Red Flags: 1. Previous warning points 2. Very new forum profiles 3. Low activity on the forums or discord 4. Negative forum or discord interactions with other users, etc. Thank you and we look forward to finding the right fit to ensure the best experience on the Identity Forums and Discord. We will also be preparing a moderator guide as well as instructions for the newly selected moderators so be prepared to accept an NDA. DEADLINE IS TUESDAY DECEMBER 11th. https://goo.gl/forms/FQ8l6DS7tWGWEL3R2

Hey! We all know Town Square is in a very early state, so here are some things I think are needed to complete it before the SWAT module comes out! Server status in menu, I have no clue why I'm not entering Town Square when the loading screen returns me to the menu (overall just very handy tool) Movement optimization Show ping European server Working interior editor (I couldn't see the UI or place anything) More things to do for players (Barber, Tattoos), people basically don't have anything to do but walk around! FPS and graphics optimization Expansion of Town Square Better UI for the settings Better inventory interface! I don't want to scroll across a thousand items! Order things, make tabs and make it logical! No lag spike when putting something in your shopping cart Yes I know, it's not great for four years of development, but I'd really like to see a better Identity in the future!

There seems to be two loud audiences in the community: The fanbois who think Identity can do no wrong, and the ragers who melt down at every real or perceived issue. But there is a third group, and I think it's a lot of us, who both acknowledge some issues, feel some disappointment, yet keep things in perspective and remain hopeful. I think I fall into that category. I'm not a game dev expert, but I do work on a software product team and I'm a liaison to the marketing and PR team so I've seen some things. Here's my 2 cents on what I'd do starting right now if I were Asylum: 1. PR move: Apologize. You're Canadians, so you're good at it. You need to acknowledge you misled people as to the playability of the module 1 release and give acknowledgement to the hard feelings in the community right now. 2. Business strategy: Freeze Steam. It is nothing but an open sore of expectation mismatch resulting in negative reviews. 3. Project management: Identify what are the top 3 issues and when they'll be patched (this will be for the benefit of the community later). Create a waterfall roadmap of the next 3-5 weeks internally. 4. Technical move: Form an Alpha or Closed Beta test (CBT) group. Offer the community some full-release swag for participating in what you will clearly frame as a buggy process (this is expectation management). 5. PR/PM move: Announce the top 3 issues and when they'll be fixed. Update daily. (Also expectation management) I've been in Alphas and Betas for other games and the entire tone of the community would be different if expectations were framed up properly. People expect a lot of bugs and limited server windows in Alpha and they feel special being a part of it. Similarly people expect some bugs in a Beta and feel special being a part of it. What happened is something presented as a limited functionality full game was released in an Alpha state, and charged for at that, and everyone is (somewhat understandably) losing their minds. Some companies have even split bets into closed betas (limited audience, limited server windows), and open betas. It all comes back to expectation management and who is really framing the narrative here. Asylum has an opportunity to take the high ground and control the narrative in a positive way. Your move.

Question: How is life wasted when one is waiting for the game by engaging in their daily activities outside of the game? The only individuals that are wasting their life are the ones threatening to never play the game while producing hundreds of posts on the matter. P.S. Long live white-listed private servers.

Alright so I'm currently trying to make a character but every time I try to type in a fist name it says it is unavailable. So I thought of an idea, instead of restricting that first name for only one person how about if you were to utilize the same first name but a different last name that it'll allow it? Realistically there are a multitude of people with the same first name so it'll only make sense. Now I can understand if that person only has just a first name and another person attempts to make a character with that exact first name and no last name then sure but other than that we should at least let players have the option of having a different last name and letting them keep that first name. Edit: Also fix hitting the "Backspace" while editing your name because it keeps sending you back to the character creation menus.

What's Next? What does development look like going forward over the next year or two? I know we just got Town Square and there isn't a whole lot to do. We knew that was going to be the case but is there hope that they will begin rolling out the other modules sooner rather than later? 3 months? 6 months? I am not nagging, just curious. Clearly there are issues with Town Square and they, in my opinion, made a great effort to get them fixed and put out updates to solidify what they have released. What is the next step, what is Asylum working on now? (I KNOW they are working on Swat and the Racing Module) There is a lot yet to come with this game and curious to see how it develops.

I agree probably should have let backers test before going on steam, but what can ya do now oh well
  12. 1 point
Perhaps you should refrain from doing that again

Glitches that get you out of the map are not unexpected for a game pre-beta. Overwatch post release had tons of those bugs for instance. It's not really the problem of town square. If anything going through wall is a much needed extra activity. Good video though. It's a good guide through glitches.

For the people who weren't taking this game seriously see here you go, they are working on these things non-stop yall need to understand this is a very hard and ambitious game. This shows that they care.

I've been keeping an eye on this game for the past year (not as long as a lot of you, I know) and I bought it this weekend on Steam. I totally knew what I was getting so there haven't really been any disappointments for me. I'm in love with the idea of what this game could be, I wanted to support that and I don't regret doing so. Besides, I'm actually having fun running around in the Town Square. I'm going to keep hoping this game continues to develop and, if the worst happens and it doesn't, then at least I know that *I* supported something that I believed in.

Completely understand and agree. It's sometimes difficult to help a person know where to start with improving their attitude/life. Seems like one generation of kids is extremely entitled and can't be bothered to look inwardly. It's not their fault, though, as very few people know how to look inside effectively. The work to face one's demons is too hard, so they don't do it. They don't want to change or even see that they would benefit from adaptation. It's one reason why I wrote a book on emotions, literally. I hope to bring awareness of the methods to improve oneself once I publish it.

If I can help do something productive, let me know. I do t have technical skill, but I can help with something I'm sure. Thanks for putting up with the toxic Discord and helping the team.

I totally agree with the OP... especially with the part "If you are done, then be done and move on from the forums." But I also understand why people act the way you described. After more than a decade of social networks, people (younger generations) are used to comment (positive and negative) about anything in their life: what they eat, how long they have to wait for the train, how school "sucks", without actually doing anything about it. And seeing this behavior everywhere it can almost be considered cultural. I grew so tired of this kind of behavior that I never opened any account on main socials... just Facebook to help me remember birthdays dates... I almost abandoned this forum few months prior to release cause I was sickened of people complaining on stuff (that could be actually true, at least for them) but did nothing about it. There were just a few individuals who actually refunded and kept posting here. Again, I have nothing against people voicing their opinions, but dude, you gotta be pretty darn stupid to realize you are being slowly scammed and all you do is observe and cry about it. The saddest part is that generation will be the next politician caste... About the game, this is pre-alpha... don't expect to have fun... Get in game (if you can) and seek for bugs... they are everywhere. Help the devs list all the bugs and classify them. Participate, be useful, be part of the community.

Usually we ban people for a good reason, either after multiple warnings/kick. If you were part of the people mass spamming the chat on the day of release, then that might be the reason why. I already linked how to ban appeal in another thread. As for what's going on with servers, servers were fine, but there was connection issues. Please refer to this thread to see the hotfix (#2 isn't out yet but is upcoming):

Thanks Devs for the very detailed explanation of delays and fixes that are happening in the News section of the game now. Good to see what has been fixed and to be fixed. I know that takes more of your time but I, for one, like to see these details to know what's happening to make this game better.
  22. 1 point
It says hotfix 2 is live, but it is still happening.
  23. 1 point
I had initially typed "Alpha" and then switched it to "Beta". You are right on point with this response and had even furthered my point. Thank you very much!
  24. 1 point
funny thing is, the module isn't even a beta, but an alpha. and its still in first week of release people are treating the alpha like a full game/beta and that is a huge mistake, they all just gotta wait for the next patch to roll around, it will fix a lot of connection issues.
  25. 1 point
This is not a beta this is a social module, everyone calm thine tits and take a chill pill. We all knew launch would have problems so quit acting like it's end of the world.
  26. 1 point
Seems like we're describing different people in that case, as I would agree that kind of behavior is unhelpful. That kind of thing isn't synonymous with people who are skeptical about the game, in the same way supporting the game isn't synonymous with ignorance. Also, people who don't think the game is going to happen =/= people calling the game a scam. Personally, the majority of skeptical community members I've spoken to (and myself) consider it more or less a mishandled project, not something actively malicious.
  27. 1 point
In my eyes, presuming that spamming the forums with the identical posts, repeatedly, will result in attaining a refund or increasing the quality of the game at a much more rapid rate is "sticking your head in the sand". It is not any different from a prayer when one contradicts one's self by requesting for a refund from a set of developers that one deems to be scammer. In this case, I am referring to the multi-accounts of players spamming the forums. P.S. I do not believe that the developers are scammers.
  28. 1 point
Then my solution for you is give up and think of it a lost cause. It's better done than complaining about it. Spend your time in a more positive and productive way. Life is too short to spend it complaining about things on a public forum. Good luck to you with all sincerity.

Let the money get into the game and I'll show you in 5 minutes why moving the pieces anywhere is a good thing (for me)
  31. 1 point
Here is what I think they should do. 1) delete the game from steam. All history of it. Immediately. 2) Apologize to the community. Be up front. Let the people vent, quit trying to mute people that are unhappy with you. Acknowledge it. 3) Tell the community you are taking the next month off to cry yourself to sleep. I am certain that this release is DEVASTATING to the devs. Your instinct when you feel that way is to just duck and cover. I say they should duck and cover, but only after they tell us they are. We are human, and I can only imagine the feelings they have right now. 4) get back to work. Release the current build on the website.
  32. 1 point
And you don't find it weird he just leaves 4 days after a fucking awful launch and the dev blogs are being deleted?
  33. 1 point
Lol dude no offense but even the super hardcore people who were refusing not to be on the devs side have gone silent... even they know this game is fucked and that they fucked us. You are disillusioned. I wish I was wrong... but explain why main devs are leaving

That is the thing. This game isn't a beta or an alpha its barely a pre-alpha. when Minecraft first came out all you could do was break and place one block. Now, look at what it is.

I share your feelings on this about the game, Stethepea. When it's out, it will be lovely, and I'm excited. Not everyone feels the way I do, and with such a large group sharing that feeling, I can't help but think there's certainly a reason for it. Things got messy very early on, and so it started making it harder to have optimistic supporters for this game. People had misconceptions, and Asylum wasn't always the best at handling the fans. I think people have a reason to be upset right now. We were promised a date, after a very long time, and it arrived. That was good. It is good, actually. The problem is after waiting so long, a lot of people expected more substance. Now, I'm not saying Asylum is to blame for that, because we raised our own expectations regardless of what Asylum said or did. Hopefully this will pacify itself to the usual grumbles. Until then, as people are getting excited and shot down, we're going to see some anger.

As I write this fifteen paged essay assignment and ten-paged essay assignment, I clearly am not heavily concerned about his opinion on the matter since it is located amongst countless other individuals with hardly any activity within these forums prior to the release of the Town Square Module. One must understand that it's extremely challenging to take any of these individuals seriously when they refer to this module as a game, to begin with. It's one-third of the "Alpha" version of the original game. P.S. How does one rationalize with "IT'S A SCAM! THESE DEVS ARE SCAMMERS! IT'S A SCAM!". These posts are produced by newcomers that are not even aware of the stage of the game... it's an "Alpha" rather than the full-game. Examine the correlation of the posts within this topic. The individuals with over one-hundred posts are calm and aware that it is an alpha module while every one with less than fifty posts are screaming that the "Developers are scammers" for "Producing a broken GAME".
