The finishing touches Greetings, and again thank you, to all of Identity's backers receiving this dev blog. Everyone's been hard at work putting together a game that can change the industry, and you're soon going to be getting your first taste. With the Town Square (Identity's first social gameplay module) nearing release, we're hard at work testing and putting the finishing touches on two of the major features. Everything's been progressing very well and I'm quite proud of the team. These last systems are the art/canvas mechanics and the player housing. Both of these have been functional for a long time, although a couple tweaks need made before we push Town Square out the door. A few minutes of decorating an Ash Hill penthouse We've added a new button in the elevators to allow you to visit a public version of any apartment. You can run around and see them in their default state before committing to buying them for yourself. This will be a very useful way to explore the available options, given that some of the floorplans will be very rare to come across with other players. Above is the penthouse after a few minutes of quick decoration. I'm not exactly a decorator, myself, but you can get a good idea of the way it looks now! It's a huge space with three large bedrooms (which means you and two friends can use it as your home) and tons of storage. We've had to refactor the backend of the housing system a good bit, but the end result you see is everything you saw in the prior Identity Insider apartment video. All features shown then will be ready for you soon in the Town Square! We have lots of other cool features coming for your house parties that you haven't seen yet, too. In case you hadn't seen that video, or you want to see it again, I've linked it below. Identity Insider: Housing - CLICK TO VIEW VIDEO Town Square gameplay live stream With my last developer blog post I included a link to gameplay video from our live stream showing character creation and the exterior environment in the Town Square module. Recently, I joined in on another development live stream to show about 20 minutes of more Town Square gameplay. This time I showed off interior environments as well as a few of the gameplay mechanics you're going to come across in the Town Square. YouTube Town Square preview live stream 2 - CLICK TO VIEW VIDEO The team and I are so very excited to show you guys what we've made in the Town Square and beyond. The Town Square isn't enormous on its own, but it's a very good way to give you an idea of how the world looks and feels. The task master The Task Tracker is a new tool on our website which displays up-to-date data pertaining to how much work is remaining for the Town Square release. If you've been following our progress through the tracker, you'll have seen that just a couple of days ago it progressed to its current point, with only two tasks remaining at the in-testing state (the ones I described above in this blog post). Keep your eye on the tracker to get the best idea of when we're ready to go. You will of course also get notified by email when the Town Square is published on Steam! The future of the Dev Blog This may be one of the last couple developer blogs being sent out in this format as we're planning on soon transitioning to more frequent developer video blogs! In the past, it's always been myself who wrote these blog posts. They've been a great way to reach out and letting everyone who doesn't follow us on social media know what we've been up to. That said, I think I speak for most people when I say video is more interesting and entertaining! Look forward to meeting the team face-to-face in short but frequent videos. Some will be general updates about our work on Identity and some will be focused on certain aspects within the game. Also, on that note, you're going to be getting a very interesting Identity Insider very shortly, covering criminal activity and gameplay. It's a major part of the game and we've surprisingly not been asked many questions about these systems in the past. You'll be getting all kinds of juicy new information and ideas of what you're going to encounter! The Twitch Clips If you've been following Identity's development closely, you probably already know that developers stream their work live on the Identity Twitch channel every Tuesday and Thursday. We also use that time to answer almost every question that gets asked about Identity's development and gameplay. Now that we've been doing this a while, we've answered a lot of questions. Our awesome community manager, BeachBall, has taken the time to compile a massive list of questions linked to clips where they're answered by a developer. Get comfy and head over to the Twitch Clips Directory forum thread. If you haven't found this already, be prepared to spend a good bit of time listening to all sorts of awesome information. This is the best place to get to know the fine details Identity! -- John VanderZwet

People arent really voicing their concerns, they are just here to bitch and moan because they cannot wait so it has nothing to do with opinions, its to do with that they dont have any patience which is what my post was about, not whining as you put it. They seem to be incapable to actually realise that they didnt buy any game in theory, they pledged to have the game made with the understanding that one day a game will get made. Its a bit like a long car journey with your kids in the back constantly saying 'are we there yet?'. It gets boring real quick hearing the same thing over and over.

Hello FireRealm8113, Identity will feature the ability to broadcast your voice on the in-game radio, but there’s no mechanic currently planned that would allow you to record footage for a television show. You’ll be able to take pictures with your phone, but won’t be able to record video. Here’s a segment from a previous stream where the Art Director talks a bit about the camera feature: Mechanics (Can you take pictures and videos with the in-game phone?) https://clips.twitch.tv/MoldyBlazingMarjoramSwiftRage And below are two clips of the CEO discussing the ability to host your own radio show: Mechanics (Does the in-game radio pick up IRL stations? Can I host my own?) https://clips.twitch.tv/GiantAgileGoatRickroll Mechanics (Will there be radio stations? 2) https://clips.twitch.tv/DeterminedExquisiteMagpieTriHard That being said, we are still looking to include both YouTube and Twitch support sometime in the future. While these features won’t be available at Town Square’s launch, you may be able to satisfy that itch for a TV series once they’re introduced. For example, you could record Identity gameplay through the use of your preferred recording software, and edit together a video to post on YouTube. You could then gather friends to watch your series together from within Identity. The full game of Identity will include special private theatres where you can watch YouTube videos with players of your choosing. Players in the Town Square Module will eventually be able to watch such content on TVs. I’ll link a clip of the Art Director discussing private theatres, and one where the CEO and Art Director specifically discuss Twitch integration: Mechanics (Can you watch YouTube videos in movie theatres?) https://clips.twitch.tv/RefinedSmoggyCheetahEleGiggle Mechanics (Can you watch twitch streams on your television at home?) https://clips.twitch.tv/JoyousBigSpindleMVGame And for further reference, here are two clips of the CEO discussing the use of public TVs: Environment (Can I use public TVs or Theaters to watch what I want?) https://clips.twitch.tv/AbnegateShortCatPrimeMe Environment (Can I use public TVs or Theaters to watch what I want? 2) https://clips.twitch.tv/FaintCooperativeClipsmomDancingBaby If you are new to recording gameplay footage, I highly recommend you try to use the capture software provided by your GPU manufacturer (Radeon ReLive for AMD GPUs and Nvidia Shadowplay for Nvidia GPUs). Open Broadcast Software is also another good free alternative. Lastly, the topic of wanting sets for certain RP scenarios, particularly a newsroom, did arise in one of our previous streams. I’ll link the clip highlighting the discussion below with the Art Director if you’d interested: Environment (Will there be TV Studios/Newsrooms you could RP in? ft. Radio info) https://clips.twitch.tv/SmokyCharmingNuggetsBloodTrail In summary, Identity won't have a built in mechanic that will allow you to record + host television shows. You can, however, take advantage of the in-game streaming services (watching YouTube on TVs for example) to reach a similar end result. These services won’t be included at Town Square’s launch, but the developers will try to integrate them as soon as they can. All I'm reading is the same thing everyone else complains about. If nobody has anything relevant or constructive to say then people need to just stop posting, it's boring as hell seeing the same shit every day either people complaining about the game or people complaining about people who complain about the game, judging by what people like you say it's pretty evident this isn't just voicing concern about the game, you're just full on whinging about everything and expecting it to be done now. Said it once before and I'll say it again, if people are this bothered about the progress of development then either put up with it or get a refund but then you'll just say some ususal crap of well I want the game to succeed yadda yadda yadda. Instead of people whining every week just let the damn devs get on with it sheesh

The only reason they don't post so often is that they are focusing on the TS module. But don't you also want some things in the TS, that they haven't screenshotted, recorded etc. for you to explore?

the last few things on the tracker have been like that for almost a month... no signs of it moving or the devs relaying what these tasks actually are. I think u will have a couple more months before it gets released.

The terrible behavior is coming from both sides, to be honest, and the regulation needs to come in the form of deleting the posts attacking people instead of discourse about the game itself.

Yes, I know what the Town Square is, and that's exactly my point. It's a very small piece of what the game is planned to be and they're a year overdue just on this one small section. Anyone thinking that the other modules will be developed more quickly are setting themselves up for disappointment. The other modules, from the current plans for them, are significantly more complex with advanced physics, AI, and more. If the developers really want to keep customers and attract new ones they need to abandon the "module" approach with over year long development times and focus on smaller, more frequent updates. People like to give Star Citizen crap, but their new approach is honestly perfect for crowdfunding. They do quarterly releases of whatever is ready, be it an entirely new major gameplay mechanic or even just a single new weapon (they've actually met almost every goal they've set with the new release shcedule though). In addition to those quarterly releases they will also put out smaller, more frequent updates with optimization and bug fixes

You're the real problem if you're getting this upset over people voicing concerns about the game. Development clearly isn't going the way it should be at this point, and people have the right to be upset. This is just a small section of the game, already a year overdue from their initial estimates and in all honestly pretty underwhelming for the time they've spent on it.

You are completely correct, I have been bitching and whining with the rest of them, but almost the main selling point at this moment (for TS Release I mean) for the devs is the karaoke bar... Can you actually see this being a civil place where people are going to take it in turns to sing songs? I highly doubt it! It will be full of trolls shouting obscenities down the mic and others attempting stage invades because they are bored... To be honest, it does not really matter when TS is released, its the following modules that will make or break the game... if the time frame is longer than 3 months between TS and module 2, then i really dont see this game being successful

    1. That time is for testing purposes. Yes it is maximum 45 minutes right now, but the devs are using it as a testing purpose to then choose the right amount of time after testing. 2. Prison in Identity is like a whole another game on it's own. Also if the timer stays low, would you bother trying to break friends out of prison because I personally 95% of people won't bother doing a planned jail break because 1 hour/ 2 hours are very low and not worth it. 3. You can court appeal your case which you have to convince the jury that you are innocent. Getting a court case sorted probably will take longer than expected and by that time, you could already be out because your timer is up. 4. Note: a lot of this is my opinion

You will not be able to purchase the game on Steam itself until the Full Game Release. When the Town Square is released, if the new payment system / new site has not released then you will have a bit of time to pledge. But 1 week after the new site/ payment system is released, that is when the price will rise and the price will be at $45 and every package above Founder will be removed. Singular items will be available though but a a more costly price.
