Committed to the Asylum Wow, what a month. This has been the busiest, craziest month we've ever had at Asylum Entertainment and the hard work is really showing. Most of the guys here at the office have been putting in a lot of overtime hours to get the Town Square module ready as soon as possible. I myself have been working half my time as a programmer, tossing some cool new systems together. I really, really can't wait for everyone to see what we're putting together! For the past few days my personal pet project has been a total overhaul of the character control and animation system. We're working on getting new animations entirely, but it's amazing how much nicer character movement looks right now after some extra TLC. In the past Identity videos, you'll notice the camera is always locked behind your character and you rotate the character with the mouse. Now, movement is a little more like games such as Grand Theft Auto in which you can run toward the screen or parallel to it, too. If you're holding your forward run key/stick, it'll play like before. It really adds a much better sense of control. Alternatively, when you're in combat mode (weapons or melee), the view is again locked behind your shoulders. None of this applies to first-person view, of course. We've been putting a lot of time into polishing and enhancing character creation and customization in preperation for the Town Square launch. I wanted to share a screenshot to give you an idea of the extensive customization options available. You can control your gender, race, blemishes, hair and a ton of facial modifiers. You can select from a couple dozen pieces of clothing to start in, too, but most will have to be purchased at a shop. Character creation work in progress I've been waiting a very long time to see Identity in the state it is right now. We have a powerful new server making nightly builds for testing on Steam and everything is beginning to have that good polished feel you expect in a real, released game. There's still work to be done but it's an incredibly exciting time for us here. Sooner rather than later There are all sorts of features we want for the Town Square which were always planned to be added months after release. With art development moving at a faster pace than I ever anticipated it would, given the relatively tiny size of our team, it seems that we might be able to include some of these features sooner than I expected. Some of these features, which should be ready somewhat soon after Town Square is available, include tattoos, haircuts and even the shooting range. Tattoo shop (WIP) Tattoo design and development progress (WIP) A look inside the Asylum In keeping with our committment to transparency and open communication with the community, our new website will soon be launching (even before the Town Square). The new website will have all sorts of shop options for you to check out, but one of the more interesting aspects will be our development tracker. We're going to be showing you exactly where our development stands in regards to each milestone, such as the Town Square release. You're going to see live data showing what we're working on and how long we expect each element to take. Then, following the Town Square release we'll keep this going for each future development milestone. It'll sort of be like looking over our shoulders in the office yourself. The Twitch Clips If you've been following Identity's development closely, you probably already know that developers stream their work live on the Identity Twitch channel every Tuesday and Thursday. We also use that time to answer almost every question that gets asked about Identity's development and gameplay. Now that we've been doing this a while, we've answered a lot of questions. Our awesome community manager, BeachBall, has taken the time to compile a massive list of questions linked to clips where they're answered by a developer. Get comfy and head over to the Twitch Clips Directory forum thread. If you haven't found this already, be prepared to spend a good bit of time listening to all sorts of awesome information. This is the best place to get to know the fine details Identity! -- John VanderZwet

The movies that will play will be from the public domain. The movies without copyrights on them pretty much.

It would be cool if you you sell things like graphics cards, cpu’s, and other things to upgrade and build a pc. Just like BestBuy you could sell things like phones, speakers , lamps, and other tech things. I would also like to be able to build a pc on the game like a pc builder simulator then sell them on a website. Maybe even add some really cool many games such as Mario cart.

    why quote your original post?..

Privatized parking spaces should only exist on a business owner's property. However, any city-owned property should ONLY consist of "paid public parking" that generates revenue with the state.

Cool idea! There will be parking meters in Identity. However players can’t own parking garages or make money of people paying for parking.

Game mechanics will likely enforce a Republic. I highly doubt that socialism or communism would even be close to possible (at least not on any public server)

Suppressing "hate speech" is still suppressing speech, and will therefore be marked as such As for political freedom, that seems to have been marked in error, and will be fixed in the next score update.

The developers will be creating their own anti-cheat system from the ground up as well as likely steams VAC will be something also used. A cheater on Identity will get a game/ account ban if caught.

The progress bar never hit the 95% mark. It was also at 78% a year ago. The progress bar also wasn't automatic with updating. It was manually updatedd. It didn't decrease in percentage when the TS module got revamped/ remade.

pretty much a year ago the status was 95% complete on town square and kept being said it was soon. I'll believe them when people are actually in the game, until than i don't trust any release date they mention, including April 23rd. i wouldn't even be surprised anymore if they pushed back again.

This is me: The incompetent. This person is socially backward. He doesn't really understand the social rules involved in dating and romance. He doesn't mean any harm. Alsof, im a manchild.

The good news I was mostly wanting: Town Square did NOT get delayed! "We're working on getting new animations entirely" That's really nice, really looking forward to see those new animations! "We've been putting a lot of time into polishing and enhancing character creation and customization" Well I can see that in the screenshot, which looks neat. "The new website will have all sorts of shop options for you to check out, but one of the more interesting aspects will be our development tracker" I'm curious about those new shop options, I hope it's not only individual pledge reward items. But the development tracker is one of the thing I'm really looking for, that way we will be more up to date with their progress. Town Square is coming really soon guys and girls. After a few years of waiting.

I second the supply and demand aspect of drug use. Though I'm sure all of which will play out in the long term economic fabrics. IRL drug use is a metal experience. On some occasions they buff, like the incident in Florida some years ago where a guy on bath salts (not your bath and body works brand) jumped off of a balcony and proceeded to eat the face off of a guy then received how ever many rounds its was from police before they dropped him. Did the salts turn him into a zombie? Did they give him super abilities? Nah, they just altered his chemistry in such a high dose to become unresponsive to pain and rational thinking. In my opinion, it would be a waste to only implement visuals or super buffs. When I'm high I gotta fight my own urges to eat the entire container of ice cream pahaha. My point is, allow the drug use to create a new layer of interactivity between the player and the character. If they're drunk, having to fight keeping up right, letting em lean against the wall until they get their shit together, hell.. even give us an option to make em throw up. Etc etc.

As a player who is planning on joining the force, I disagree with this statement in a few ways. Firstly I want to make it clear that I do not think that corruption should be against server rules (You shouldn't get banned for it) but I also do not believe it should be encouraged. Sure there will be corrupt cops because people want the cash, but I don't think there will or should be too many. The next aspect is politicians. I would hate to see a public server politician become corrupt. Now when I say corrupt, I don't mean doing drugs or breaking laws, I mean pardoning criminals with ties to certain gangs or them working with certain gangs. The only reason I say this is because I know what it is like being in a game or on a server where one party or group has full control over the server. Especially in some life-based RP games, I have played. Basically what happens is someone makes a criminal empire and because of that, they are capable of pulling off major crimes. Now the problem lies once this group is in correlation with a governing body. the reason being is the cops will either be at a complete disadvantage when attempting to apprehend the criminals (given misinformation, they are warned ahead of time, etc), or the police will be useless because even if they arrest someone, they would just be pardoned or released. Now, this is not fun for a variety of reasons. The first being the police. As an officer, you would be looking for an opportunity to roleplay as a job you find interesting. So when you physically can not do your job because you know that if you respond to that call or you try to place a warrant, you will get killed by a large group of people on the backs of corrupt police and politicians. The second is that when the officers cannot do their jobs, the whole city goes into complete anarchy, making any player not apart of what would more than likely be a secluded gang, getting bullied and pushed around without any means of defending themselves. In simplest terms, in the course of probably a year (depending on the gangs grow rate), this will be the history of that server. The History of Hell: Peaceful town. Minimal Crime. Police have control. Structured Gov. (The way intended by our Gods (the devs)) Gang violence starts peaking. Police are directing attention towards that. Gang violence erupts into Suburban and Inner city. Police now have most attention there. Gang Violence is a major problem. Police ignore lesser crimes. Politicians start focusing on fixing the issue. Gang conversion. All smaller gangs start to group up into larger gangs. This could be anywhere from inner-city to outer-city or east-side vs west-side. The city has become a "hood" type feel. All crime begins to spike. Police start going corrupt. Remaining police lose control. Politicians lose control. People begin leaving the city. Gang violence surges for days. Police can not intervein because of little manpower. Politicians go into hiding. Businesses close down. People hide One gang is victorious. Gang violence massively drops. Crime spikes. Politicians are forced to step down, corrupt leaders elected. Police lose even more control. Remaining police band together in a vigilante force. Most die Vigilante force outnumbered. Vigilante force leaves. Normal citizens get harassed. Normal citizens leave. Now for some people that may sound fun. However it really isn't, the untold history after that is everyone is just grinding non-stop because they are never contested by law enforcement. So the server struggles to get new people, old ones leave, and it dies out. No one but the ones in the action will have fun and for everyone else, its a complete middle figure to their attempt at immersion. I got a bit sidetracked but to attempt to tie this to the whole corruption thing, basically if too many police go corrupt, it would be because of a large gang. This large gang will more than likely follow this timeline. Now if a politician went corrupt, this would just boost the process where basically we skip the gang violence a skip straight to the police losing complete control. If you need me to clarify, ask me. I can understand any confusion. (Not check/revised/edited) I lied I will edit this once to add this bit. Just to restate, I am fine with small corruption here and there, but we have to be careful of an outcome stated above. It is not a very small chance that it will happen, it has a very good chance of happening if the general corruption like we think would happen, happen. It would be a shame to watch an entire official server being avoided or driving players away from the game.

I do not think Police work will be "boring" even though it isn't my cup of tea and will never pursue a career there. Thinking about it, I honestly think players will have fun with this role constantly being on the look out for anyone doing anything wrong. Writing tickets, arresting people, even walking a beat.....In real life as we all know good and well there are plenty of corrupt cops. Just the way things are. There should be some in game as well. Just my 2 cents. *Steps off my soapbox*
