1 pointA Sneak PeEk Environment out-take from coming video; player-ownable farmstead I'll get right to the bits which I know you're all excited for and wondering about: the upcoming gameplay video. We'd really hoped to get it out in January, but I sit here at 10pm on the 31st finally getting time to write up this dev blog. It won't be tonight, but it's going to be really, really soon. We did run into some delays for animation content which set us back almost two weeks on the video content. The delayed art was external and out of our control, but it's all handled and now we're polishing it up to show you first-hand. It's days, not weeks, away. Around the Studio It was an incredibly busy month for everyone on the team. My last bit was consumed with ever-so-exciting annual tax preperations and hunting for new blood. Andrew's been hard at work getting the last bits of technical content for the video flushed out and Henrik has accomplished some really big things bringing the Town Square together. Prototype UI design for inventory and shop transaction As you can see above, Artur's new UI design overhall for Identity and the Town Square module is looking fantastic. After Scaleform (our old middleware for UI) was abandoned by Autodesk, we had to rebuild our UI from scratch. In hindsight I'm glad that happened as I really like our new systems much more! Also of note is a very heavy overhaul of foliage (trees, bushes, grass) and other environment bits using photogrammetry. This is a fairly new method used in creating incredibly realistic art assets. You're going to be blown away by the results our resident photogrammetry guy, Philipp, has achieved. We've begun working with another studio to hasten art development for Town Square and other parts of Identity. Some of these guys have worked with us in the past, and the art we're getting back is some of the best in the industry. Full Steam Ahead After years of effort, I have to admit it's pretty fun and exciting seeing the Town Square module coming together. In the last weeks we've both launched our development game servers on the Google Cloud as well as a working development client on Steam. Internally, we're now at a point where we can prepare for access to the game world just as you'll be experiencing it in the Town Square. With the release of Town Square, all Founder package holders are going to be issued a key to redeem Identity on Steam. Town Square will be played through Steam and your Steam friends will be able to join you in the same game instances. Committing to the Asylum Finally, after more than two years of trying, the Canadian government has granted a work visa to our Executive Producer, Sean (also known as Motown) and he's been here at the office for the last couple of weeks. We've already seen a boost in productivity having one of our key developers on site, and I'm excited to see where it leads! There's still some room in the office, though. We're looking for talented technical artists, Unreal Engine generalists and animators especially, but we always love to meet talented individuals no matter their field of expertise! If you, or someone you know, would be interested in working for Asylum, check out our careers page. The Twitch Clips If you've been following Identity's development closely, you probably already know that developers stream their work live on the Identity Twitch channel every Tuesday and Thursday. We also use that time to answer almost every question that gets asked about Identity's development and gameplay. Now that we've been doing this a while, we've answered a lot of questions. Our awesome community manager, BeachBall, has taken the time to compile a massive list of questions linked to clips where they're answered by a developer. Get comfy and head over to the Twitch Clips Directory forum thread. If you haven't found this already, be prepared to spend a good bit of time listening to all sorts of awesome information. This is the best place to get to know the fine details Identity!

1 pointThe pop of a bottle of liquor being opened. The soft somber piano playing in the background, the relaxed voices of the restaurant patrons enjoying their meal. Where else but The Chairman? Gene pours his drink into a glass, no ice. His face shadowed in his office with the smallest cloud of smoke from his cigar. “The Red Spade liquor. In my own opinion the best on the Island.” The voice is a familiar one. But surly it wasn’t Gene’s. As he takes his sip and leans forward you can catch a glimpse of a scorched chin as he lowers his mask. Golden with a shine to it. “But I suppose that’s too vein of me. Yes.. I know that.” Gene turns his attention to his muted television. Shocked at what’s come of his great city. After all, a city is only as great as the people that inhabit it. He slowly gets up and walks to the other side of the desk. He gently placed his hands on the man whom was sitting across from him. “It used to be Mafias and Motorcycle Clubs. Waging war through the street. Hell there was a Neo-Nazi Group that made a dent for a while. My point is.. I’ve been here a long time, practically since it was formed and still in a rather, fragile state. I built up a reputation of being trustworthy and loyal. A man you can depend on. Gene tightens his grip on the man’s shoulders. A soft gasp of air shot out of the man’s mouth. “Loyalty only gets you so far. To survive, thrive and outlast your competition you have to be cut throat. Fearless. And most importantly, you must do what’s best for business. You my friend are not best for business. Having sexual relations with the leader of notorious gang members girlfriend is NOT best for business. So please tell me, why?” The man looks forward, after the accident nobody has looked Gene in the eyes. As Gene loosens his grip the man takes a gulp, beads of sweat trickling down beside his ear. “Sir, I didn’t think that you had anything to do with them. They’re just a low level street gang. We just thought that.. Well what would you need with them?” Gene crouches down the view is from behind him. As he slowly takes his mask off you can see the visible disgust on the young man’s face. “Don’t be afraid.. No shhh.. LOOK AT ME! I own everybody, everybody has a price and everybody serves their purpose. A community thrives on the skills of individuals, not on groups. So when you fuck up one small fraction of a machine you ruin the whole thing. He’s unreplacable, you aren’t.” Gene takes the man’s neck and wrings it out. A soft chuckle before a loud snap. The men who work for Gene look on in horror as a once figure head for change has diluted to a crime boss. “Take him and dump him in the swamp.” “What about the others?” “Tap their houses, make sure we get a soft much information on them as possible. They still serve a purpose. And Lou.” “Yes sir?” “I need to talk to you.” As Lou makes his way over he is visibly terrified of Gene. From the point of view of Lou, Gene’s face isn’t horribly disfigured. Puss and scarred facial features are all that remain of a truly great man. Gene grabs his shoulders. “I’m counting on you to do the right thing. Don’t disappoint me.” Gene slowly puts his mask back on and sits back down. Taking another sip of his liquor in his empty room. “Red Spade liquor, best on the island in my opinion...”

1 pointThere he sits on his throne. A throne made out money and weapons of all kinds. He sits there slumped over with his hand resting on his cheek still wearing the Templar gear he wore about a week, or was it a month maybe it was a day ago, who knows. his faithful pet dog Max lays at the foot of the throne. You guys remember Max right? The police commissioner's dog? From the White Mask Christmas Special? Of course you do. Alright where was I? So there he sat with his faithful dog Max watching the time pass him by. A small but famous laugh is heard in the distance. "Max hush.." He shakes his head. Laughter is heard once again but this time louder. He looks down at Max. “MAX Stop it!” Max looks up at him and then lays back down. He leans back into his throne once again. “Now Now is that anyway to talk to your friend…hell I mean your only friend?” He quickly sits up pulling his pistol from his shoulder holster. “Who, who said that?!” Laughter is heard once again around him “Oh come on…how could you forget???” He stands up as Max takes off, and steps off his throne of money. “I don’t know who you think your messing with but when I find you I will kill you.” He takes a step forward with his pistol drawn looking around. “Well then why don’t you just turn around?” He quickly turns as he see him, sitting on his throne all sprawled out and relax like. “Wait how can you be there? I am you and you are me?” He lowers his weapon staring at White Mask. “I am you, you are me, you are me I am you blah blah blah. its really confusing isn't?” White Mask is seeing playing with a deck of cards as he starts to flick them towards the man. “Hey Asshole” A few cards nail him but they are just cards. “What the hell is going on why are you here I thought I got rid of you?” White Mask laughs “oh my dear lad, he cannot get rid of something that you are, something that you are met to be. Man this shit is deep I am spewing out on you.” White Mask laughs again and gets off the throne walking over to him. he quickly looks behind him making sure he wasn’t backing into anything and then looks back as White Mask was gone. “Man I need to get some rest I am starting to see things.” He shakes his head as an arm goes around his neck. “You know something, those drugs doc gave you are a helluva drug I mean I almost thought you forgot about me." He closes his eyes. "Your not real!" He then opens them as White Mask was gone. He looks around and see a figure in the shadows. "You are not real!" he grips his pistol tightly pointing towards that shadow. "Go away!" The figure comes out of the shadows and shakes his head "You are pathetic, I gave you everything, I did what you could not do! I started a Revolution and you just gave up on it!" Crimson says wearing his full Templar gear. " You do not deserve to wear the Cross of the Templar's you FAILED" Crimson reaches for him as he fires a shot blindly towards Crimson. He opens his eyes after the blind fire as Crimson disappeared just like White Mask. He looks over at Max who was hiding behind some empty boxes. "I need to take my pills.." He moves quickly over to the table as he reaches down to grab his pills a white gloved hand grabs his hand stopping him in the act. "No No no Not until you let me in." White Mask tilts his head to one side looking at him. He tries to get his hand back but then a force from behind pushes him down head first onto the table holding him down. "Let me in. Let me finish what you couldn't" Crimson holds his head down on to the table so he could not move. "Oh Let me in too!" he claps wildly "Oh please let me in I promise I will be on my best behavior!" He feels the weight lifting off of him as he stands up and looks around. "I can't I hurt so many people...I can't." Crimson and White Mask appear from the shadows standing together as one. "Why can't we all just get along and become what we all want?" He shakes his head. "no no get out of my head GET OUT OF MY HEAD!" He covers his face up and drops to his knees. "your not real...this is not real" Silence through out the warehouse as he looks up and looks around? "Hello?" he gets to his feet and looks around. He looks down and removes his Templar gear dropping it to the floor. He holsters his pistol and walks over to the throne of money reaching into his pocket pulling out a zippo. "Its time to end this all." He opens the zippo and holds it up looking into the fire. He glares into the fire watching it dance. "Burn it" the voice echos through the warehouse as he keeps his gaze on the fire. "Burn it all down, its time to get back on track. Its time to show the island who is the real Villain is. Build the Army back up, time to strike fear one the island, Free US FREE US!!!" He closes the zippo and looks to his right seeing a chest. he walks over to it and pops it open looking down at it. Dropping to his knees he reaches down into the chest and pulls out the Mask, The White Mask that started it all. "go ahead put it on. flip it over and look at all the pretty colors inside the mask and place it on your FACE!" He flips the mask over. "No Put on the Templar gear start the War over, I will find you more followers!" He shakes his head looks back at the Templar gear. "No put the mask on and lets have some fun! No burn the mask and lets get to work. NO Crimsy hes Mine! I thought he was pathetic but I see that you are the pathetic one. What?!?! you want to go old man? huh I got ninja skills boy. I am going to kill you and place that head of yours with that stupid mask on a spike! Oh yeah well Im going to drop kick you and throw you body in uhhhh some acid YEAH, suck it! Yeah? oh YEAH! YEAH YEAH COME ON! LETS DO THIS!" The voice get louder and louder in his head. "STOP!" The voices stop. "I know what I must do..." he slips on his mask. as a low laughter is heard. Max whimpers in the back as White Mask is back. "Time to burn this city down and let everyone know that the prince of crime is back baby" HAHAHAHA "Wait who the hell am I talking to? damn voices in my head."

1 pointFirst thing first, Beta and Modules are two different stages. The modules will last until the beta comes out, then the beta will last until they decide to make the full release. There is only one known date at this time, which is the release of the Town Square (first module) on the 23rd of April. As it stands for now, the modules will be part of the same program. There will be updates that will be pushed for each modules. Also, I struggled to find a good clip that explains a bit about the different modules and how it'll work. https://clips.twitch.tv/ProudWittyGuanacoChefFrank

1 pointCrime Doesn't Pay, This Time Earlier this month we released a quick and raw gameplay video showing off an interaction in a rural area of the world. The art in the video is very much in development, but it's a great way to see some of the features and how they work. You'll get a glimpse of a drug production mini-game, the computer system used by police officers, and more. For this dev blog I wanted to toss in a couple clips that didn't make it into the video; all in glorious GIF form. The environment shown in the video is actually quite old. For example, those trees have been in use for a couple years of our development. The character animations (in fact, the entire way you control the character) will also be much different when you get into the Town Square. To give you an idea of how our art has progressed over time, see below one of the older placeholder trees, as is seen in the video, compared to a more recent tree which will be found in the Town Square. The Finishing Touches As you'd expect, our priority for the last month has been getting the Town Square ready for play! We've been working overtime getting everything into place, and it's shaping up very nicely. You'll see from the image above that our artists have been producing absolutely incredible assets. In my own opinion, it's the nicest looking environment I've ever seen in an MMORPG to date. With the original release date for the Town Square quickly approaching, it's become evident that we're unfortunately going to have to push the date back, although the delay will not be long. More work is required to ensure that the launch goes smoothly; we need time to reinforce our server structure and do more internal playtesting. The Town Square will be released to all Founders (and above) one month later on April 23. This is an unfortunate reality of game development, but we want to make sure you get a quality product which isn't rushed out the door too soon. To help ease the pain of waiting for a taste of Identity, we're going to start throwing more media out for you, including a Town Square trailer video overviewing the features you'll find inside. Making it Big! We recently hit the incredible milestone of $1,000,000 USD raised! In fact, right now as of this writing we're in at just under $1,025,000. The support from our community and pledgers has been absolutely incredible. I wanted to take this chance to say thank you; it's because of you that Identity is becoming a reality. The game we've all wanted for such a long time is coming. Around the Studio We're in overdrive over here, working hard to get the Town Square ready to go! As I sit here in my office typing this blog post, Andrew is finishing up the new character creation system. The user interface Artur made is beautiful. I couldn't be happier with the new UI systems he's produced following Scaleform's demise (our old middleware which is now dead). The biggest change here in the office this month is the addition of Mark (who the community has dubbed Marker), our resident graphic designer. He's pumping out amazing art for in-game brands at an incredible pace. This will translate into all sorts of clothing brands and patterns, wallpapers and much more. He'll be bringing you a whole lot of customization options throughout Identity. The real big news, though, is the birth of our lead programmer Henrik's (Sone) new baby boy! Be sure to congratulate him if you spot him on Discord. He's probably too tired to read, though. Liam has been getting a lot done on the new Identity website, too. You'll be seeing the launch of this new website quite soon, and it's going to bring a whole bunch of new options and features for you to enjoy. 1 pointHappy Holidays From Asylum! The holidays are upon us, and the team at Asylum begins their short rest! We've been busier than ever, and this coming January is shaping up to be one of our biggest months in a very long time, if not ever. Our expanded team has been working hard on game features beyond the Town Square, and you're finally going to be getting a glimpse of true Identity gameplay very soon in the new year; that's just the start. Keeping it Real Primary systems in Identity such as weapons and vehicles are being developed to operate as realistically as possible. Last week a few of the developers braved the freezing temperatures at a local range to record audio directly from a slew of real firearms in all sorts of conditions. It's very important to us that the weapons in Identity look, sound and react as close to reality as possible. We've even modeled the ballistic physics based on real-world mathematical formulas. Powerful weapons are going to be rare in Identity. Assault weapons, for example, will likely be used in major circumstances. For the most part players will have access to less powerful weaponry; melee, hand guns, hunting rifles, and so on will be the norm. Here it Comes! With the Town Square development moving along, we're not far off from showing the world real Identity gameplay! Like I said up there, January is going to be a big month. For us in the studio, we're excited to get our hands on a few new technology demos that might have a huge impact on Identity! For our fans, January is going to be the month you see the first true world gameplay video. Not only that, but soon after we're looking to release a Town Square trailer! Keep your eyes out on Identity's Twitter and Facebook. The Twitch Clips If you've been following Identity's development closely, you probably already know that developers stream their work live on the Identity Twitch channel every Tuesday and Thursday (except on this coming week due to holidays). We also use that time to answer almost every question that gets asked about Identity's development and gameplay. Now that we've been doing this a while, we've answered a lot of questions.
