3 pointsCrime Doesn't Pay, This Time Earlier this month we released a quick and raw gameplay video showing off an interaction in a rural area of the world. The art in the video is very much in development, but it's a great way to see some of the features and how they work. You'll get a glimpse of a drug production mini-game, the computer system used by police officers, and more. For this dev blog I wanted to toss in a couple clips that didn't make it into the video; all in glorious GIF form. The environment shown in the video is actually quite old. For example, those trees have been in use for a couple years of our development. The character animations (in fact, the entire way you control the character) will also be much different when you get into the Town Square. To give you an idea of how our art has progressed over time, see below one of the older placeholder trees, as is seen in the video, compared to a more recent tree which will be found in the Town Square. The Finishing Touches As you'd expect, our priority for the last month has been getting the Town Square ready for play! We've been working overtime getting everything into place, and it's shaping up very nicely. You'll see from the image above that our artists have been producing absolutely incredible assets. In my own opinion, it's the nicest looking environment I've ever seen in an MMORPG to date. With the original release date for the Town Square quickly approaching, it's become evident that we're unfortunately going to have to push the date back, although the delay will not be long. More work is required to ensure that the launch goes smoothly; we need time to reinforce our server structure and do more internal playtesting. The Town Square will be released to all Founders (and above) one month later on April 23. This is an unfortunate reality of game development, but we want to make sure you get a quality product which isn't rushed out the door too soon. To help ease the pain of waiting for a taste of Identity, we're going to start throwing more media out for you, including a Town Square trailer video overviewing the features you'll find inside. Making it Big! We recently hit the incredible milestone of $1,000,000 USD raised! In fact, right now as of this writing we're in at just under $1,025,000. The support from our community and pledgers has been absolutely incredible. I wanted to take this chance to say thank you; it's because of you that Identity is becoming a reality. The game we've all wanted for such a long time is coming. Around the Studio We're in overdrive over here, working hard to get the Town Square ready to go! As I sit here in my office typing this blog post, Andrew is finishing up the new character creation system. The user interface Artur made is beautiful. I couldn't be happier with the new UI systems he's produced following Scaleform's demise (our old middleware which is now dead). The biggest change here in the office this month is the addition of Mark (who the community has dubbed Marker), our resident graphic designer. He's pumping out amazing art for in-game brands at an incredible pace. This will translate into all sorts of clothing brands and patterns, wallpapers and much more. He'll be bringing you a whole lot of customization options throughout Identity. The real big news, though, is the birth of our lead programmer Henrik's (Sone) new baby boy! Be sure to congratulate him if you spot him on Discord. He's probably too tired to read, though. Liam has been getting a lot done on the new Identity website, too. You'll be seeing the launch of this new website quite soon, and it's going to bring a whole bunch of new options and features for you to enjoy. The Twitch Clips If you've been following Identity's development closely, you probably already know that developers stream their work live on the Identity Twitch channel every Tuesday and Thursday. We also use that time to answer almost every question that gets asked about Identity's development and gameplay. Now that we've been doing this a while, we've answered a lot of questions. Our awesome community manager, BeachBall, has taken the time to compile a massive list of questions linked to clips where they're answered by a developer. Get comfy and head over to the Twitch Clips Directory forum thread. If you haven't found this already, be prepared to spend a good bit of time listening to all sorts of awesome information. 2 points@Paul96 @LordBenjiYes the orange one above is the concept art for the sports car, however that concept art is old! You won't be able to see the pledge vehicle on launch of the 1st module and it will come eventually like @LordBenji said above. However it is not something going to be straight away added. You won't be able to drive it indeed, driving won't come until the 3rd and final module, the racing module.

1 pointSo just to clear this up; This video is not intended to bring hate to the developers but more to show them what the community wants and give them some recommendations on what they should do! Leave your opinion; agree or disagree with my points on here on in the comments. Thanks- Aaron.

1 pointlook i understand game programing takes a long time, however weve been told like 4 or 5 different dates for the town square. i also understand there is a similar poll however its got way too many options to get a fair estimate, this poll is meant so the developers can see weather the community wants a half working game now so we have something to shut up those people who have been calling this a scam for a while, or continue waiting for perfection. don't get me wrong i have the highest hopes for this game and love arma 3 project life, but i feel like this poll needs to be here, and voted on so the devs and the community have a understanding of each other and what the people want. again i have the highest hopes for April 23rd

1 pointGTA 5, lets see, it was 7 years in development before it hit the stores. That is; The identity Team is roughly 20 Full time developers strong and more freelancers. Roughly 30 devs. Not to mention they had even less a year ago. Games are better delayed than rushed. Other developers give into their communities pressure, not for the benefit of the game but to satisfy the consumers. It is never better to rush games out. (IMO) We all need to wait for something, and not rush the developers because that is what happened with "NMS". The community pressured them and the team collapsed because they also had the publisher push them too. The pressure from the community is good but when it goes too strong devs release because of the stress, which is for consumer pleasure not the benefit of the game. All constructive criticism is good and like small pressure is also good but when the pressure is asking for a earlier release with more bugs, and problems than the later release, that is when the pressure has gone over the threshold of being good. We all want the same thing here; Identity in our hands. If we can get it early then it is good but if more time is needed then it is better to get it later as that is better. Comparing GTA is hard to do seeing as the team size difference, funding and development time. You state it should have been released 2 years later than it did, well then it would have been 9 years in development. The devs do show things on their twitch every Tuesday and Thursday @ 4pm till 5pm EST. Also remember, this game won't have a SP campaign, it won't have all that AI complex coding which GTA has with the roaming AI. PS: You have made some great points though.

1 pointI do believe you'll be able to go to your garage if your pledge reward includes one. Then you'll be able to enter it and mess around. You won't be able to drive it though. Which pledge you want is up to you. The pledge reward vehicles are just there to make moving around a little bit easier when the beta will be out. Don't forget they are old vehicles though.

1 pointWell I think not only is it fair to criticize the developers - but necessary. No criticism means they could spew out a terrible game and get away with it, the feedback people give, both positive and negative, helps shape the game.

1 pointI think that's how the developers felt with the old release date: But seriously, if they judge it's best to wait an extra month, then it's for the best, despite that I've seen some extremely upset people. If they have to delay it again, I'll have very mixed feelings about the project and would be quite concerned.

1 pointHey everyone. First of all let me start this by saying I've been a huge fan and player of Altis Life for years and have been looking forward very much to Identity, and I still am. With that being said, the amount that some people are defending the developers here is quite crazy. Don't get me wrong, the developers should be treated nicely and in a fair manner, but they also must be criticized for their mistakes, how will they ever do things better if not? I want to address a couple of arguments I have seen. 1. It's game development, of course this stuff happens!: I agree with you, delays are a part of development and sometimes they are needed. This is completely fine, the issue is not in the delay itself, but the way the developers have handled the community. At first people were arguing with the video, saying it was not a set date so it's not their fault if it gets pushed, which is fair enough, the issue now is Town Square WAS a set date, and I still see people arguing about it, you're going back on what you originally said? At the end of the day, DELAYS ARE FINE, the issue is not the delays, but the communication. Let's look at the video, at first we were told end of January and start of February, then left in the dark for a bit, then told with a few days, then it comes out over a week later with rather disappointing results (Also, the reason for the delays was supposedly animations, which if that is true, I really cannot see anywhere in that trailer where there were complex animations or things that were not placeholder, which the devs have admitted themselves. Also, as a video editor myself, I seriously do not understand how that would have taken over a week tops). This is bad communication, which leads to broken trust. 2. It's all your faults for making them focus on videos and stuff! No. If the dev team is that split or busy, then nothing of the sort should have been revealed to the public. I see people going at others because they never PROMISED it, which they did not, but they did communicate it to the community and gave a pretty narrow date, so what do you expect? On a community management side this has just been handled horribly, and I put no blame at all on the community manager as it seems he was just left in the dark as well. Now people may say, well that's just developers, they need to tell people about things! That's not really the case, but even if it was, there is a better way to communicate it, take this for example: Hey everyone! We have a new video coming, currently we are not sure when it will be released, but please look forward to it in the future! That is much better than: Hey everyone! There is a new video coming at the end of Janu....start of Febr.....Few da....At some point....Maybe. Let me finish this by saying this, I am still hopeful for this game, I want it to succeed and I hope it does! That is the point of criticism in the first place, not to hate, but to try and assist someone in bettering their product, if everyone said my work was amazing just to be nice, I would probably still be making the worst video edits on this planet, criticism is important, and trying to hate towards it or defend it is quite ridiculous. With all that being said, thumbs up to the devs for allowing people to share their opinions like this and to criticize them, some other studios would try to hide this type of stuff. In the end, the issue is not with development, it is with communication. I hope for the best for this game, I really do.

1 pointThere's plenty of other games out there to play.. It's delayed, so what ? does it matter... ? I would rather them take as long as they want to get a decent version of it out rather than something glitchy and full of bugs, like other games devs do. I pledged a good amount of cash for this also but i sit back and enjoy the updates and twitch streams, if there's a delay then that's fine, good things come to those who wait and i'm in no rush. Keep up the good work dev team and keep the info coming Those who rant and complain about it, the door is that way >>>>

1 pointOh boy.... another delay? Yes, yes delays happen we are all fully aware. STOP GIVING DATES!!!!!! It does not build trust with your community when you continue to not deliver on what you say. I know it takes time etc.. but stop giving dates!! The only thing I can think of is that you are trying to promote your game or stay relevant in some news somewhere by giving out dates. First impressions are important and what did the vid you guys hurried out the door show us? You have MUCH further to go than everyone thinks. Take your time, make your game but please stop giving out timelines you are unable to meet.

1 pointHi @GreyFox, Firstly, excellent video and you make a lot of great points. Now, I'm sure you've seen me around the community quite a lot in the past (with the exception of the previous 2 months due to the death of a very close friend in my life) and you may have even seen just how often I am constantly defending the developers and saying "no, no, it's okay, they are a very small team and the work they have accomplished over the years is incredible". However, if you have seen me posting regarding the developers, then you've most likely also seen me talk about how "with the extreme importance of the Town Square module and the giganticness of it within the community, I am positive (I even used that word numerous times) that they would not give a release date for this module unless they were entirely sure". I am disappointed. Truly and fully, I am disappointed and I even feel somewhat stupid. I have said many times in the past that, with such a small development team and the pressure of the community, any dates they gave should be expected to be estimates, not specific, factual dates, except for the Town Square which I was certain they would keep their promise on. However, after listening to some of your points about what they have been doing with their time, building concept art and features which won't be needed for anything even remotely close to the Town Square, once again, I feel somewhat stupid. Now, like you, I am not in any way attempting to hate on the developers as I am not a hateful person and I have a lot of respect for the developers and all of the hard work they are doing. In addition, I give my congratulations to the lead programmer on the birth of his son. However, as you said, that shouldn't be any reason for delay and their money should be spent much more wisely. If they are that small of a team, why not continue to hire people? I know they have career positions available but they clearly aren't hiring enough developers or at least not consistently enough and aren't maximising use of their $1,000,000 that they earned. In conclusion, I will always continue to defend the developers against trolls who try to do nothing but trash them for delays (as they will also be the same people expecting a fully-fledged and functional, glitch-free game on April 22nd), however, they have definitely lost a lot of my trust and I do not think I can believe any other dates that they may provide. I'll just have to wait and see if they stay true to their word this time. I also believe - but could very possibly be wrong, it has been a few months so forgive me - that we may have clashed once or twice in the past about this topic, however, I admit that I have been foolish in trusting the developers on their promise. I was strongly looking forward to March 21st and now I simply feel disappointed and frustrated that we have to wait yet another month. I understand that it takes time and "Rome wasn't built in a day" but it's been 3 years for one, small social module with very limited exploration and interaction other than between players. Developers and Moderators, please do not think that this is in any way a hateful or conflict-creating post, however, I am very much disappointed. EDIT / ADDITION: I also think that we need to see a lot more evidence of work from the developers, without spoiling the surprise for when the Town Square releases, so that we can confirm that they are at least somewhat close to finishing the Town Square. I don't want to see deer or S.W.A.T. uniforms. They won't have any part within this module and I'm a politician not a police officer. SHOW US MORE OF THE TOWN SQUARE!

1 pointCars won't be super expensive like GTAO. They will be realistic. Houses and Apartments will be realistically priced also. Clothing and furniture will be realistically priced. Also there will only be 1 type of tax and that is sales tax. Meaning you won't get taxed when paid. You also can do a lot of other things to get more money. You won't pay rent for your apartment. You have to pay rent like every real month to to keep the house only because it means those players who own a house won't keep it if they quit or go to another server. I know what you are feeling but I at the same time don't want it to be easy to get money and get everything but i would rather work for the things and so everything I get and do is valuable to me.

0 pointsI totally agree with you. I do have a lot of hope in this game and that is probably the only thing that doesn't push me off the edge regarding Identity.
