Hey guys, wanted to address this to prevent any further confusion, and to offer our perspective and transparency. Asylum Entertainment is registered in Canada by Paratus because he is a Canadian citizen and the owner of the company. I spent 6 months in Canada with Paratus and Marc (another programmer on Identity) and then returned home due to a work visa issue related to missing tax paperwork. I am a co-founder but I am not an executive of Asylum, and until I recently requested so, was the lowest paid employee, earning minimum wage (even less than our freelance artists). Around July, I requested that Paratus stop paying me because I didn't feel comfortable taking resources that were better spent towards the development of our project, considering how limited our funding is. Paratus insisted on continuing to pay me, but I stubbornly insisted right back that he not. If there is any reward to be earned for my work on Identity, I prefer that it come after the successful launch of this game. I have always said that I would work on Identity for free, even if we ran out of funding, and I feel a sense of pride knowing that these resources are spent on real progress. Now on to the Reddit post. The user /u/theafricandream on Reddit who posted that thread is a former member of our Altis Life community who had been permanently banned more than 9 months ago by a member of our volunteer staff as a result of a long history of bans, despite receiving multiple second chances. Here you can read my reply to a Reddit thread he created 9 months ago after he was banned. In this thread, TheAfricanDream accuses us of banning players that have donated to Asylum in order to scam and steal their money. Presumably he had donated prior to receiving his ban and in the wake of his upset, created this post. I, nor anyone else that I am aware of besides Paratus, has access to Asylum's Altis Life Paypal account or transaction data, and especially not credit card information. Paypal does not send credit card information to vendors, and we only accept Paypal as a means of payment. And as for the content on AsylumExposed, It is almost entirely (unless fabricated or untrue) related to incidents that had been addressed as soon as we had discovered them, in many cases, before they landed on that webpage or in the hands of the community. Any time you are managing a community of volunteers, you will encounter people who become comfortable in their position and eventually attempt to test the waters and see how much they can get away with. Abusive actions on the part of our volunteer administrators are treated as an insult to the community and the rest of the volunteer staff. There are numerous ways we handle abuse, ranging from removal from the admin team, to requiring they provide compensation and an apology depending on the severity of the issue. Remember that Empathy is Asylum's goal, and it is extended to both the community and staff. Despite inflammatory commentary and accusations, we understand where users like TheAfricanDream are coming from. Without a constant flow of official information, people rely on external sources wherever they can find them. We blame no one but ourselves and find no excuse for the lack of communication between us and our incredibly supportive and deserving community. Public Relations is a matter we have struggled with since the start of this project. Simply put, and regrettably so, none of us are experts in Public Relations. I took up the mantle of Community Manager because I was already involved in managing Asylum's Altis Life community for Paratus when he and I got together to conceptualize the idea for Identity. Paratus was a skilled programmer with industry experience, and I had experience with 3D modeling and went to school for it. We both had very ambitious dreams about the type of game we wanted to play and with our combined knowledge, knew we were capable of pulling it off together. The success of Identity's Kickstarter cemented our dreams in reality. It introduced us to an entire universe of people who had the same dreams as us, and provided proof that the market was there for Identity. Identity's financial situation isn't entirely accidental either. Since Identity's start, we've dodged investors and publishers that have offered enticing deals, as a measure to ensure Identity was completed as close to our original design as possible. To us, accepting many of these deals meant compromise, and we simply haven't been willing to rush features, or give up creative control to push out a product that is any less than what we have promised. Thank you so much for your continued patience and support. You guys will never understand what this journey has meant to us and how much your support has lifted our spirits.

While I understand the difficulty in game design and crafting a world from nothing.. Your excuse for the last two years has been that "You're under staffed." While I'm not trying to make a complaint nor a problem I'm simply pointing out that if you were so aware for over two years and raised 200,000$ why did you not just get a staff that would be solely dedicated to your project. Every time this subject is brought up we end up hearing the same thing over and over. When you hired your staff you knew they were freelance and continued to promise announcements you knew you couldn't reach within the time you made. My theory is that you keep saying more is to be announced to keep people here. And Parutus? What is he so busy with? I can see the that he's a leader. Making sure people do their jobs. Making sure people get paid. But how does that take 6 months to do? When I was in the Discord I saw multiple people offer help to you for the sake of the game. You didn't give them an answer and to my knowledge you still haven't. I don't think this is a scam. I just think you're hurting your customers hopes by never releasing anything but pictures. I don't care if the video is a minute long showing off a bunch of blank textures with some buildings placed. At least them we know you and your team aren't lying. Again, not trying to complain just simply making an observation and expressing my thoughts.

I very much agree with what Gene has to say. For I follow a game called Survive The Nights. They put out change logs ever so often, but at least we get an update. The last change log was today. Before that was April, and yes. That is a long gap, but I can see 80+ additions, mechanical and prop wise. They also have added what they've fixed, what's in store for the next change log, and their known bugs. Their community is well and alive like that of identity, and if you post a thread, you're guaranteed to get a response from others and 100% of the time; it's from an admin. And yes, only one admin is active. The information they put out is insane, and the game has been in production for two years. The other side of the game is the developing. For the game is run by a decent size team. But yet their are only two dev's, and two graphic modelers/designers. So you saying you are just understaffed is completely wrong. I think 200K can get you some good workers? Am I not right? Then I thought I was lazy!

Let's just agree that if this topic gets blocked or deleted then we know that they are scamming. Deal?

You're just gonna have to wait it out mate, the devs won't release anything till they are ready to do so, not upon somebody's plea to do it early.
  6. 2 points
Then why don't they post a thread explaining it. Everyone is taking the dev's word for it, and a lot of people are starting to worry. Would it really be that hard to post a 2 paragraph update? The fact that they haven't tells me something is wrong. Either they are incompetent community leaders who don't know how to communicate with their investors, or they're just trying to screw as many people as possible. If you google Asylum entertainment, there are countless reports of them ripping people off and being refunded by paypal, these threads are starting to spread across this forum too

It's been 2 years and theres no actual evidence of anything being done, not even an update EDIT: You know something is up when pretty much every thread in this category right now is questioning progress/legitimacy and the devs/staff still dont seem to give a shit. I mean, I know it takes a while but they should have SOMETHING. The makers of GTA MP had a mod to the point where they had video evidence of being in game within 3 months. Granted, that's a mod and not a whole game, but still, there should be some sort of proof. They were also a small team of VOLUNTEERS

Langston Family / Dark Ace Mafia vvvvvvvvvv CHECK OUT MAIN PAGE THREAD! vvvvvvvvvv Welcome to the Langston Family, or the Dark Ace Mafia. we have already recruited many men, and have made many connections. We are looking for more loyal men that enjoy the Mafia style role playing. This crime family will control everything from the production of drugs, the dealers on the streets, the weapons trade, smuggling, hijacking, robbery, and whatever else we need to do to get that money. Everything illegal happening on the streets will belong to "us". This means if their is a petty dealer dealing on our streets, well, lets just say he won't be there for very long without paying some fees. On top of all the crime, and money, we are a family, we support each other in times of need, and stand on the building blocks of loyalty that this family operates on. We will be a Suit Mafia, wear tailored suits, drive nice cars, and we treat everyone with respect, unless we are shown disrespect. Join this family, and have a lot of fun in identity, and make lots of money while doing it. Now a little about me not as a Don, but as a person. I am not the Don that sits in my office all day. I am not the Don that steals from the poor. I am the Man, that spends time helping the community. I give money to the poor, and just am a very public kind of guy. Am i scared of being public, sure, you never know who wants to hurt you, but living in a room, is not living. I hope to see many of you in the game. Who can join? Anyone, if you like crime style playing, and mafia type scenarios, this is perfect for you. What will we do? We will do all the things a Mafia does. We will control the drug dealing in the towns, with dealers operating under us, giving us a cut of what they make, and we give them more product. We will control illegal gun trading in the world, doing big role play like deals, with other Family's. We will break the legs of anyone trying to take our turf, and if it becomes necessary, use our assets to have them taken care of. This is just a glimpse at what we will do when the full game is out. Climb the ranks of the Mafia family and become high up and powerful, and make a name for you, and your family, on identity. RANKS: First I have to say, ranking up is not about the money you bring in. You will not be ranked up before spending a considerable amount of time in the family, and proving that you deserve to move up the chain through nothing but pure dedication and success. 1st, Associate: You will role with us and see how things are done. Bring in $500 into the family, and prove yourself to the family to rank up. 2nd, Soldier or Street man: You will scout the streets, bringing information of people selling anything from guns or drugs to the attention of the family, you will be able to also show other Associates how we work. Bring in $2000 into the family, and prove your loyalty to the Langston name to rank up. 3rd, Enforcer: You will be tasked with doing some... shall i say, dirty work. Now don't get ahead of yourself, your not a hitman. You will be an enforcer on the streets, intimidating, and maybe even kidnapping people who disagree with our rules on the streets. You will also be able to take soldiers and associates with you on jobs such as robberies and other various tasks. Bring in $10,000, 1 new recruit, prove that you deserve this promotion, and complete one mission for the boss to rank up. 4th, Capo: You will be in charge of territories and men. You will have your soldiers and associates, although this does not make it a competition between you and other capos, it is just that you are at the stage of control. You will have more leeway to do jobs and activities of higher caliber. Remember, we are a family, so no matter where we are, we always help each other. The capo can also give his own jobs and assign his own tasks to enforcers or soldiers, if he/she is confident they can get it done. Bring in $15,000 to the family, and 3 new recruits, show you are ready, and complete various tasks for the boss to rank up. 5th, Underboss: This rank will have limited slots. Whether i want 2, 3, or 4 is undecided yet. The Underboss(s) will act as the commanding voice of the family when the Don is away. They can assign major tasks to the capo's to then assign on their men. The Underbosses will be entrusted in handling many meetings with other family's, supervising major deals and shipments, to ensure everything runs smoothly. You are the ones with the most experience meaning you make the calls above everyone under you. Special Division 1. Hitman: What i meant to say was, special tool. To get to this rank, you must make it to the enforcer rank, and than come to the Don about this... Special job. You will be tasked with many, special assignments to say, clean up messes, or take care of things. You get the idea. RULES 1. Respect, 2. RESPECT 3. Loyalty 4. Obey higher ranks 5. Got a problem, don't freak out, come to the Don personally. 6. No Snitching, no talking to cops, civilians, or even your own sweet mother about things we do. 7. All rats will be caught, you wont last long as a rat, we'll have people watching over everyone, and you will meet our special tool. 8. All money collected on family related jobs, will be split to 70% for those who "collected" the money, and 30% for the family. 9. Family money is not one mans money, it is the money we use to further our organization, whether that be buying a poor soldier a suit, buying more cars for the family, getting "merchandise and tools" for the family, it all goes to the family, not just one mans personal pleasure. 10. Steeling from the family is not smart, as this makes you a thief to the family, and that breaks this rule, and rule #3. Not only does the Don himself despise people who steal from the family, but everyone does as your are stealing from everyone, as that money could be spent towards the family and gaining even more money. If your short on cash, don's hold back your % on jobs, simply ask someone for a loan, or even the Don himself doesn't mind loaning money to his family members, because that's what we do. 11. Don't do ambitious jobs or activities that could jeopardize the family organization without consulting the Don. 12. Along with the rolaplay fun of the family, take some time off once in a while and just have fun, try other jobs, it is a new game and if you want to try new things, just take a break, ask the Don. 13. Always have your family's back. 14. As an associate or soldier, before committing any crime at all, ask a superior if it is ok. 15. Last but not least, if your caught, it was your individual choice to do what you did and you had no influence from anyone else. Sometimes you just got to eat some dirt to keep your family safe. This will not go unnoticed as sacrifice, is a quality of a very loyal man. 16. Close members of the Family's wont be selling drugs, personally delivering illegal shipments, etc. This will be for outsiders that are under our control. This is to keep the crime semi disconnected from the family and helps insure the integrity of our operations. 17. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES, are you to discuss plans, activities, operations, etc, with anyone outside of the family. Doing this will make you a RAT, and you know what happens to rats. Please message me if you are interested. Best regards, Kevin Langston

Hello there, I have the feeling that this whole thing is a bit rigged. I mean it's understandable that the Devs need their time but we do not really have at least 1 evidence that Identity is real and Identity will get released. I read a Reddit post where someone is also complaining about Asylum in relation to Altis Life servers: https://www.reddit.com/r/IdentityMMO/comments/53vp6y/real_colors_of_the_owners_of_this_project_read/?st=IUF57E7C&sh=ebfbfbf7 If it would be real the Developers could give us a little glimpse that the game exists like with the promised gameplay video or a announcement for the first module and I do not really think that there is no time for that, that would be a lie. The last DevBlog is also a half year ago and the only thing we see is some work on character customization which would not take a team with 10 programmers 1 year. Iam also wondering why the packages at the shops are declared as donations? I mean isn't that a bit obvious? This game is too good to be real guys. Iam not saying that the Devs are attempting a very big scam but at the moment we don't have evidence for the opposite. Guys please correct me if Iam wrong but the feeling is getting me more and more and it would not be the first time a game project on Kickstarter evolved as a scam. Help me please and be nice with replies Iam just very confused right now so please do not judge me!

All very good questions. We continuously plot our budget to hire as many people as we can (accounting for up to a years pay in most cases) in all essential areas. This essentially means that in order to make more room for more artists or programmers, some of us have to do multiple jobs at once. For instance, I'm both the Community Manager and a 3D artist. Paratus, besides just being our project manager, is also a full time programmer and technical artist for Identity. He's always busy with one thing or another and It's not that he's taking 6 months to do one thing. it's more like that he's actually moving from one priority to another with the video never being at the top of that list. The longer it takes him of course, the higher priority it becomes, and it's certainly far past due now. He knows that and isn't intentionally avoiding it. We've had a lot of people offer to help us for free, but we've also had a few offer to help for a price. We have hired a couple freelancers in the past from our community on Twitter, but we do have incredibly high standards for our artists, and not everyone is capable of meeting those standards, and that kind of talent doesn't come free. The other issue is that, perhaps hypocritically on my part being the exception, we feel very strongly against accepting free work. With our budget in check, we can't afford to pay these people if they were looking for a paid job, and don't feel comfortable exploiting their services for free. There are a lot of moral and ethical concerns regarding that, even if the person providing thinks they are ok with it. From our experience, eventually they are going to want compensation, which leaves the door open for potential legal issues. I think this post particularly is a wake up call for our entire team. As a result of our lack of communication, we can observe how damaging false accusations, like that posted on Reddit can be, especially when noone from the community has been provided anything in support of countering these claims. Worse still, this burden is my responsibility specifically, and I absolutely do feel like I am underachieving by not being able to provide new information to our community with any kind of frequency. I will work with Paratus to see what we can move around to develop a new strategy for dealing with our PR issues.

Thank you so much for this comment @Motown , im hoping that the community will calm a bit after receiving this straight from you. Have you ever thought of volunteer staff such as asking the community to take on such roles as PR? Of course there are a lot of us that are on here most of the time and im sure most of us would be happy to help staff the community. At the end of the day it of course is all up to you but i think just the extra helping hand might ease up the tension that surfs this forum a lot with the lack of updates.

No I honestly expected delays and whatnot, but I check the forum out once a week or so and would like some sort of official announcement. Even if some member of the community took all the twitter questions worth answering and reblogged them on an official post, something that people can go on, see and not scroll through twitter. Maybe even not fully reblog the tweet word for word but just summarize the key points of what's going on.
  13. 1 point
what complaining? I just want to get the Devs giving us some evidence that the development exists...
  14. 1 point
@lemon @TakeiT What are you actually trying to achieve by complaining may I ask?
  15. 1 point
They gave a ambitious release estimate and well so they have delayed things as they are behind that ambitious schedule. If I was a freelancer, I could be working on identity 1 day, the next day I could be working on another game and so on. So I could be working on 2 games over 5 days.
  16. 1 point
That isn't my own definition, that's straight off google, and by "time" it means at different times of the day. You also can't compare that to someone building a roof since a freelancer is meant to work on different projects whereas a roof contractor isn't. EDIT: They don't "Pick" the developers who aren't solely focused on the project, they "hire" them, and "them" are freelancers like I said.
  17. 1 point
Yeah which freelancer would take more jobs at the same time? DonĀ“t they have an agreement?
  18. 1 point
When the game was first announced not only was it solely a concept but the video shown of the apartment customization was partly the dev's assets and other people's assets. So they put together different scenes to elaborate on the concept initially introduced during the kickstarter campaign. Motown has also replied to a few posts explaining their situations to almost everyone questioning the game or it's release, and also replying to a lot of the fans or members of the forums on the fan-made discord.

The fact they refuse to put out any footage in almost 2 years and they've been delaying a trailer for over 6 months is the biggest red flag you can get. All i know is, if they're full of shit, they deserve every legal and illegal attack on them they'll receive. But i still hope they aren't full of shit because i want the game.
  20. 1 point
Perfectly said, and I agree with it. I also would try and make a community which is like it but I can't keep in character long periods and so that's why my community is going to be serious/ hardcore. It is no good if I make a server which is Hardcore RP only if I can't keep to that level and so I also want older staff for the server so that they are taking more seriously than kids.
  21. 1 point
What disappoints me is a lot of people prefer an arcade style of gameplay.. or because they know there are no real consequences and everyone has their standards set low they think it's okay to just fly down highways, through intersections or whatever recklessly and carelessly. I hope there will be real hardcore RP servers out there, a server with standards, a reputation to uphold. Like getting into a good college, not that cracktown free shit who wouldn't give a rats ass if you killed yourself. I've been to ArmA RP servers that have been around for a while. People have tested their boundaries, pushed the limit. Eventually someone finds the line, then what? People take advantage. If we want a community that cares, we need staff that care. Some of the most important things a staff member can have is compassion, dedication, ambition. I've been a part of new roleplay servers, fresh out of the oven. In the beginning the staff are compassionate about the community, they show dedication and have the ambition to try and uphold the communities reputation and standard for roleplay. I've stood and watched, I would observe the way people performed and roleplayed. At first, people try, reluctant to break character, break immersion, bait, to disvalue life. The RP's good for a while.. eventually people find the line, then more follow. Staff become upset regarding people's standards in RP, they think "If you can't beat them, join them." then who becomes a part of the problem? The compassion they once had.. gone, flickered away like a cold winter breeze. All that remains are the ashes of what used to be a community that desired for quality.. roleplay.. a world to escape to, but not like anything you've witnessed before.. something to respect and lose yourself in, a place you could be graceful to be a part of. Thoughts?
